Entry 1: The Boxes of Cats

It was a little strange but what I remember most is visiting a house that was in my old neighborhood that I’d recently moved from (it really wasn’t, so dream logic) but I came back to collect something I left or my mother left.

It was very sad and the people who were there now were sort of okay with me wandering around and looking. I kept noticing the signs that I’d once lived there (painted over places that still revealed chipped paint and stuff I recognized from my apartment).

Then I looked beneath a couch or table and found boxes full of kittens. Two boxes were full of meowing kittens in water that the new home owners had no idea were there, and one more box held a very dead cat that was an older one from a previous litter. All of the kittens were starving without their mother and I knew that it was the reason why the older one passed.

The new owners suddenly smelled the dead cat and I took it upon myself to get rid of it. When I came back an hour later all of the kittens were gone, and when I was walking past another house I could see all the kittens. They’d all grown up into adult cats!

I got myself plenty of frozen meals so I won’t be on my feet to cook and clean. I used my Von’s rewards in the app to get a few dollars off of more tape for my knee.

My baking group wasn’t meeting today, I called in to check, so while I was at the store for tape I got Pilsbury and Toll House sheets of cookie dough. Today I made Pecan Turtle Delights. I ate 6 then press and sealed the others for after my therapy appointment on Tuesday.

It sounds like you are doing your best to heal with the frozen meals. Keep things healthy when you can. Good luck with the therapy appointment.

I am okay. Not too much news on my dad. He was really tired today. @integrityblues

If you need a laugh bestVase, the wound on my knee as it’s healing is definitely shaped like Africa. I double checked and compared the two to be sure.

Maybe it's telling you the best way to heal is to sit and watch some African nature documentaries. I do find them relaxing when I get a chance to watch.

Things are about the same here. Living in limbo is tiring but I keep trying.@integrityblues

I do like nature documentaries. My wound care is like walking a tightrope- either it’s too dry and the dressing sticks to the wound and it reopens or it’s too moist so the scab isn’t forming.

Nurse Jackie is on Netflix so I’m binging that tonight and the rest of the week while I prepare for my last pt appointment and then my mom’s dr appointment on Monday.

She’s reported another hallucination about a box of sharp metal tools and a kitten.

I’m glad that so far things are staying the same.

I hope that the wound has healed a little more. It does take time. It does sound like you have a busy few days ahead. I hope that your mom's hallucinations lessen. My dad yesterday was talking about working at the Pentagon. I don't think that he was fully awake.

We will go and see them tomorrow. He was a bit more awake today after several days of almost sleeping through our calls. I am not hoping for much tomorrow. Maybe some time singing for him and going out to get him a special pastry or something.@integrityblues

Singing for your dad sounds lovely, bestVase. Pastries are always a win.

I made an appointment for today because it was the only one available that wasn’t in a month. It took awhile but a nice Dr looked at my knee and said it’s an ugly wound but it’s definitely healing. I was advised to leave the bandages off unless I was going outside. She prescribed me modifinil to last me one month and zinc oxide ointment to put around the soreness of my wound. The first is delayed and I don’t think the last will show up on my pharmacy app so I’m thinking I could go to the store to pick up a generic equivalent for the ointment.

My final pt appointment went well. I’ve graduated. My range of motion is very good, I’m strong, and when she arranged my arms in specific ways to see how I could resist her putting pressure on them I did very well. I even told her about pushing myself off the ground while on my knees after the fall and the time I pulled exactly one trash can up and down the stairs.

I’m planning to rest for the weekend and keep drying out my knee. Then I’ll help with my mom on Monday. She’s been slurring a lot the last two days and I’m not sure if it’s just because she’s taken out her dentures.

She’d called as I was eating lunch and waiting for my PT appointment. She’d accidentally peed herself on the sidewalk when her the spicy chili on her hot dog triggered a bout of coughing. I had to remind her that no, we’d not have to make a Scan Transportation call because in the past they’d informed us that they don’t work on weekends so won’t schedule trips on a Monday. So I’d be coming over and accompanying her on the bus to make sure she gets there on time.

I told her to just rest and maybe tomorrow she can do a load of laundry.

bestVase, my friend revealed that she has her cat back from the vet, but the cold she’d thought was the problem turned out to be something much more serious or something else was discovered in the tests. I didn’t ask for more details.

She was able to take her cat home yesterday or today with medicine to ease the cat’s pain. My friend is just holding and petting the cat to keep her calm and loved. The vet gave medicine for the pain and said it could be days or weeks until the end. I told my friend I was so sorry and then told her to keep focusing on her cat, get hugs from her fiancée and hug him because they’ve both been very worried as this began and not to answer my message because I felt it was more important to keep her focus on her 17 year old cat, her baby.

Please love on your cats.

I am so sorry for your friend's cat. It is hard to see anyone that you know in pain.

I hope that your visit with your mom goes well tomorrow. I know just seeing her will probably relieve your brain a bit.

Great job on the PT! I am so glad that the shoulder is doing better. You worked hard to get it that way. The knee will heal up soon. You are doing the right things there as well.

My visit with my parents was okay, not great. Dad was a bit more responsive than last time which was nice. But he is still mainly lying there with his eyes closed or asleep. I tried singing to him for a bit. My mother said she doubted he was even hearing me, but he said he liked it and even made a song request. "Good King Wenceslaus", an old Christmas carol, was an odd request, but I managed to remember it. I then weeded in my mother's front yard but couldn't get it to her liking even though I was weeding in the rain. Then, worst of all, I purchased a very small lemon meringue tart (about the size of a Dunkin Donuts munchkin) for my dad as a treat. I handed it to my mom while I parked the car. By the time I got inside Dad's room five minutes later, my mother had already thrown away the tart saying my dad didn't like it. It was his favorite and I had looked forward to trying to feed it do him. Oh well. Sorry for the complaining. The depression is definitely picking up with all the things going wrong at the moment.

Thanks. I’ve let her be to have space.

Despite trying keep my knee dry during my shower, it got wet and after having it bandaged to run errands the damn scab stuck to the dressings and it tore open. I swear there this thing is just being so aggravating. And now I have to get it bandaged again for tomorrow’s trip to my mother. I just know it’s going to hurt and I’ll need the rest of the week to get it back to what it looked like yesterday.

I’m so sorry that your mom tossed out the treat you brought for your dad. It sounds like he’s enjoying your presence though, and that’s nice. The singing is good too. Maybe he asked for a carol because Christmas will be here in a few months?

You don’t have to apologize for anything. Things are kind of tough.

The knee is healing. Getting the scab to stay dry and not soften up has been difficult. Showers and having it bandaged for long periods of time just sucks.

When I got home yesterday it was a mess but it’s a bit better today so I’m hoping it’ll finally be done by this Friday.

I got out today in the rain to get my modafinil, put my mom’s additional IHSS forms in the mail since she didn’t have envelopes or stamps when I visited, and hit the store.

Tomorrow I’m going to start job hunting again so I’m prepared with some more recent efforts if my new job developer gets in contact with me this week.

I’m glad that you haven’t gotten too far behind on grading and that things haven’t changed much.

My poor friends, in addition to grieving over their cat passing away, are now ill. My friend thinks that the shock of that event must have messed up both their immune systems. I’ve told them to please rest, eat soup, and get hugs.

Glad that your knee is healing, but I am sorry to hear about your friends. It is true that your immune system can get hit hard after you lose someone.

I hope that the job hunt goes well. I do think that you might be really good at helping seniors fill out important paperwork. Your brain is quite organized for doing something like that.

Not much new to report beyond my depression symptoms really picking up. I have fought for so long to be off the depression meds and this long backslide has been very tough. I wish I could see some end to it but between dad being on prolonged hospice, all the grading, the intense drama at work, and the medical waiting, I am just done. @integrityblues

I’m sorry about the increased depression symptoms. It’s a tough time…if it’s necessary and would be helpful you could try the meds, but that’s up to you and your dr. Talk therapy and journaling can also be good!

My mom had decided to temporarily turn off her phone and she at least called to warn me about it so I wouldn’t worry. She made this choice because she’s upset that she can’t contact my younger sister and that a friend hadn’t visited her the day before.

Her Dr called her on Monday after her appointment to discuss the blood test results (better than 2022) and to discuss a glandular mass in her neck previously found by another Dr years ago and left in the notes. Next week I’ll help my mom get to her Pulmonologist appointment.

I went to gamer’s group today after the person running it called me on Wednesday to tell me it had begun again last week. I’d gotten there today and the WOW worker said she’d texted me about it but so hadn’t responded. I quickly learned she’d written my number down wrong and I told her how to fix it.

The group was good. I baked some cookies to bring along and share and made myself a ham sandwich for something healthier to eat while there.

The job hunting is just depressing but I knew that going in. I’m going to have to try and meditate after each try.

User Profile: bestVase7265

Meditating after every job try is a great strategy. You could also go on a short walk.

I am glad that your group started up again. It is funny how disconnected you can get with a wrong phone number or something like your mom turning off her phone for a bit. You are still doing great things to help her.

My depression continues but I survived the day. I am already up to going to therapy every other week at the moment. A little over a year ago I went about four months without any appointments. But now I am not sleeping well, have a good bit of brain fog and headaches, and a little suicidal ideation. So none of that is good. However, it felt good to get out with all the other millions of people protesting today for an hour. And I got done what I needed to today. We will see about tomorrow. @integrityblues

I’m glad you got outside for a bit. Even a little therapy is better than none at all. Even I’m going once a month now (mostly because the schedule can’t fit me in every two weeks) so when I couldn’t go to any of my groups it did make me feel very disconnected.

I’m panicked over getting some money from my aunt (who forgot last time and I had to remind her but she thankfully told me it would be coming by the 28th) and the travel funds that should be here by Monday or Tuesday. I made a mistake with my budgeting so I’m feeling the stress…

I’m going to make some cookies.

Mistakes happen but you will figure it out. It is good that your aunt is helping. I hope that the cookies were lovely too.

The cookies were good. They were Pecan Turtle Delights.

I had to go to my mom this morning to help with the drs appointment- the pulmonologist prescribed my mom another medicine that is typically given to people with asthma but also works well for COPD patients, the trouble is that it might not be covered by my mom’s insurance. That and she would have to learn to use a medication pen to take it once every two weeks or go to the dr to have it done. She has to go back in three months for a lung CT and return appointment to the pulmonologist.

While I was preparing for the appointment with her I got the notification that my aunt sent me the money I’d asked about. I’d eventually got a notification later that my mom’s present arrived and it fit in my mailbox. When I finally got home I got to open it and found her 20 dollar money order- I subtracted what I’d need to add to my aunt’s money to pay my internet/home phone bill and used what was leftover for dinner.

I was so wiped out after the appointment, going shopping for lunch for her, and accompanying her to the 7-11 when she forgot her pin and couldn’t get cigarettes.

I left for home after 4 and got there by 7. My legs are so sore because yesterday I ended up picking up all the cat poop in front of my building, repeatedly needing to squat and reach. The muscles above my knees ache!

Next time I go to my mom I’m going to need to schedule things more carefully. Like on appointment days it should be all about the appointment, and then schedule specific days for other tasks. She just really needed more food.

Yes, it is a good idea not to do too much when you have mom days. It takes me 5-6 hours of driving to see my parents. I make sure to try to put only a few tasks on my plate when I am there. I remind myself that just seeing me is a joy for them and that I am enough. You are always enough no matter what you do for your mom. @integrityblues

Yes. I tried telling her that and she immediately began saying how she can do appointments by herself. We went back and forth and I told her that it made me really anxious to hear since it took my getting involved to get her to and from the dr on SCAN without her getting upset and deciding to refuse everything. That I just wanted her to be able to get her medicine and see the drs when she needs them, and maybe pop by once a week to help her clean or shop.

I told her that since we’ve gotten her most recent Dr stuff done I’d be on break and returning the boundary of calling once a month (as we’re still waiting for her interview for IHSS and there’s 3 months till her next drs appointment) also since she called me three times on the same day to apologize about some email from her property company about her rent payment that I’d already discussed with her in detail.

It does make me happy to see her happy and rested in a more or less stable environment. She still gets anxious and paranoid and very frightened, so I have to reassure her that things will be just fine. I also know she likes seeing me as I know how to use her smart tv and can open up her YouTube Music and start playing her playlists or choose a band or album for her. I’d opened the app on my phone too, switched accounts from mine to hers so I could add the artists she’d remembered as we talked like Savoy Brown, Judy Collins, or Canned Heat. And before I left most recently I added Led Zeppelin that she’s been happy about for days.

And just doing that seems pretty cool.

That's lovely that you can share the music with her and that she is calmer. I wish that I could a handle on that technology angle with my parents. It really is being there. My mom can work nothing when I am not there except occasionally the TV. So dad gets bored and sleeps almost the whole day. This hospice journey has been a long, hard one. I am not going there this weekend but I will go next weekend. I am so exhausted with everything at work as well. @integrityblues

My mom sort of understands the remote but not how to access the apps for streaming. She’s getting better at it with some guidance. She also sleeps a lot of the day away too.

Now that I’ve got my first job development appointment ready for November I’m going to try and not be so anxious about how I’ll balance everything.

I dreamt about taking classes again and needing to finish a paper. It was one that I’d finished in real life years ago but I sometimes think back on it and how I could have made it better. That when I was leaving the classroom I had to check and see if the door was locked since all of us were leaving, and also to turn off the lights. I’d brought my PS2 with me to class and though I was leaving it behind I took my memory cards so I could keep all my progress without someone deleting all of it. I didnt have time to take my game back, though.

I’m sorry that things haven’t evened out yet. I hope that you at least have nice quiet moments with your husband or your cats.

I’ve been worried about calling my property management and informing them that I’m not going to be the porter any more…my friend advised me to wait until I’ve become my mom’s IHSS worker for real. It probably would be smarter to do it once I’m sure I’ll be making extra money helping my mom so that if they raise my rent another 50-90 bucks I’ll be able to address it.

I went to my local food bank and misunderstood the hours because I got them off my city website. It turns out that it doesn’t start at 9 it starts at 10- 9 is a sermon that I wasn’t prepared for. Unfortunately it all started with apocalypse talk, Halloween being Satanic, lots and lots of praying over people present, and a sobbing sermon that left the guy preaching on his knees as well as the security guard who joined in to pray and cry and kneel while speaking in tongues. It was more of the same for the song. I think I was most uncomfortable about the faith healings. It was very overwhelming for this Jewish girl, let me tell you!

Everyone seated eventually got to go down to the food bank in the basement, pew by pew. We’d all had to sign a clipboard to get access to it, and I noticed that as the service was winding down more people were peeking in just to sign in and wait outside.

Next time I’m going to arrive just before 10 so I can just go to the food bank. For this first trip I got one little package of chicken breasts, four bags of dried navy and pinto beans, some single serving cups of Raisin Bran, canned tuna, spaghetti sauce, pinto beans, and tomato soup. I also got a pesto rotelli pasta salad, a flatbread pizza, and some bell peppers and zucchini that need to be eaten or cooked then frozen by tomorrow. I’m having the pizza tonight.

Maybe some of the bell pepper will go in eggs for breakfast. The chicken breasts will be spread through the week so I can have more healthy protein and add the beans. I’m already planning to add some to the spaghetti sauce and some whole wheat pasta I still have.

Sorry for the rougher experience at the food bank. That sounds like quite the surprise and quite pushy. That isn't what Christianity or any other religion should be doing. But you did get some good food which will help. With all of the federal workers not getting paid, I think food banks are going to be hot commodities for the next bit.

Sorry, when I tried to reply to your message it wouldn’t even let me see what I was typing.

My birthday was okay. I was just tired. My visit with my older sister went well.

I went to see my mom today because she really needed to get laundry done and go shopping for food- my younger sister visited that morning and after taking a fall from exiting the bus and accidentally landing on her dog she’d asked for the cart so she could haul him around. I just don’t understand because the dog was fine enough to make the jump to share my mom’s bed.

Sadly it meant that me helping my mom was stalled and it was much harder. I could only do a very small load of laundry at her apartment complex laundry room. I got everything on my mom’s shopping list when I left her to take the load out of the dryer.

It wasn’t much but it was still more than I was comfortable hauling. Once I got home I spoke with her about her attempt to visit the local atm. She’d forgotten her pin and the machine was difficult to use. After I rested a little bit I escorted her there, observed the problem, then withdrew the money myself. It was a pretty confusing machine.

I hopped on the next bus and went home. Once home I got lunch and tried to rest. I’d noticed an irritating cold sore this morning so I’ll use the 20 bucks my mom gave me for my help and get some Abreva.

I’m so sorry! I’ve been really overwhelmed by the delays in food stamps. I just laid down a lot and rested, but sometimes I’d go outside to walk and hatch a 1km Pokemon Go egg.

The food stamps finally came today on Friday and I was so surprised I nearly cried. I was also talking to my mom about showing up tomorrow and at first she agreed, and as soon as my older sister offered to give me a break and send some food to her so I could avoid the long trip. My mom then decided that she’d take care of the laundry herself and that I wouldn’t need to come over- and then she had a big accident at the laundromat and had to leave everything there to take an emergency shower and put on clean clothes. She went back but she sounded so confused and frustrated that I decided that I was going to visit her tomorrow any way.

She’s lonely. She thought she saw my younger sister and her dog at the front door and got really depressed. So I’m seeing her tomorrow and we’ll have a coffee and chat, I might help her with a very small load of laundry at home if she needs it, and tell her when the food delivery will be and leave before noon.

I hope that you’re doing okay too. I hope that your parents are okay too.

@integritybluesThat dream sounds really vivid and emotionally charged. It seems like it touches on themes of loss, care, and transformation—finding something forgotten or neglected, feeling sadness for what was lost, but also witnessing growth and renewal with the kittens growing into adult cats. Dreams like this can sometimes reflect your feelings about past experiences or changes in your life, showing both pain and hope. If you'd like, I can help you explore what this dream might mean for you personally or how it connects to your feelings right now. Would you like to talk more about that?

[TRIGGER WARNING FOR A GUN/injury]

I dreamt that I was walking through one of my old neighborhoods from when I was a teen. I guess I went into a more dangerous spot and saw another teen exit a house with a gun in his hand. I’d managed to avoid getting shot by staying on the ground when he got too close and was shooting other people.

I took a chance to try and get away and hide in a house, but he caught me at the door. I ran, trying to weave to avoid the shot but I was hit in the shoulder.

I woke up in a shelter with my mom and younger sister because we couldn’t go home.

When I actually woke up I noticed my shoulder and chest were aching from the cold or I’d strained the muscles there in my sleep. I turned up the heat and took my medicine.

I visited my mom yesterday and helped her figure out the number for her dentist, then checked the balance of her EBT card to see she’d finally gotten the rest of it, and went shopping for her after I signed her back into her YouTube Music.

I got her soup, milk, Banquet Swedish Meatball frozen dinners, a Coke Zero, and a slice of chocolate cake.

Once I got it all back and was resting while my phone was charging my mom actually got a call from her IHSS social worker to schedule the in home assessment! It’s for next Monday between 12 and 1.

I’m afraid that I can’t be with her that day- I’ve got to go to a drs appointment the next day and I know that going to her for just that appointment is going to exhaust me. I’ve already told her that I’m not sure if I can be present because baker’s group might be on.

I’m so sorry about your dad. It was the right choice to go on a partial mental health leave as everything is going on.

I’m going to visit my mom on Friday to help her do laundry so she can wear something nice and clean for her assessment. I’ll be dragging my own wire basket with me because I can’t haul her laundry on my own strength it’ll blow out my shoulder.

My job development meeting went very well. She shared a link with me that provided free lessons for Google suite and other basic tech programs that I’m not as proficient in.

I felt so accomplished after that that I did dishes for thirty minutes.

My aunt shared her prime video with me so I can watch the comedy movie Play Date starring the actor Kevin James. She swears that it will make me laugh, maybe it could make you laugh too?

Just sit and cuddle the kitties and watch whatever you like.

I am so glad that your job development meeting went well. It sounds like you have a better person to work with now?? Learning some new skills is awesome.

I am basically where I was before. I did start my partial leave today. So I will be doing what I dislike (grading) but not what I love (being in the classroom) because I don't have the energy. But I did get in a few walks around the small pond in front of the house today. Hopefully those will help.

Dad is the same. My sister is visiting for them for the weekend. In theory we will go over on Wednesday to get mom for Thanksgiving and return her home on Friday. But we have no idea with Dad what will happen. We have been going "one day at a time" for a very long time.

Thanks for the movie suggestion. Maybe some time soon. @integrityblues@integrityblues

I’m sorry your leave begins with grading. Is there anything you can do to liven it up, maybe have your favorite music on but playing at a volume that won’t distract you?

Walking around the pond sounds pretty awesome!

It’s unfortunate but “one day at a time” is sometimes the best we can do. Your sister is on duty for the weekend and you’ll pop by for Thanksgiving for your mom.

The movie was very silly and I did laugh quite a bit.

I’m going to see my mom tomorrow- I was supposed to be there today but she got upset at the thought of me traveling in the rain, that she’s sick and having a flare, and so on. I slept in today and finally checked on her- she’s just upset about the things she can’t do by herself and probably only really agreed to me helping her because my younger sister never responded when my mom asked for the shopping cart back.

I’ll drag my cart on the journey so I can do plenty of laundry for her, or maybe go shopping depending on how much time I’ve got left. I also have to look at her schedule wall furnace- the manager suggested to just put in a work order but the soonest they’ll look at it is Monday. I need to make sure she can be warm since she doesn’t even have a jacket, just a vest and a Henley.

I just want my mom to have clean sheets and pillows, and plenty of things to choose from to wear during her assessment. I want her to be warm!

I hope that you had a good visit with your mom and were able to make her warm, comfortable and clean. You do so much for her and she does appreciate it (even if sometimes she is distressed at needing help).

Things are still about the same with me. My sister did her visit with Mom and Dad and I think that she really came to terms this time with the fact that he is dying. She tried to feed him and he couldn't do it and threw up everywhere. She was pretty distressed that he wasn't eating because that to her is starving. But his body doesn't need the calories any more. He is happy enough and is still able to engage in short conversations. He even watched a movie today (or part of one).

So we move forward into Thanksgiving week. Not knowing what will happen when is tough because it won't be much longer. But mom needs to get away a bit. So the plan for now is to pick her up for Thanksgiving on Wednesday and bring her back on Friday. But one day at a time.

Yes, it was a very long visit because train I take was having repairs to the tracks closest to my home in addition to having to haul my wire basket with me. She refused to stay home while I did laundry, so it took us twice as long as I drained every bit of energy matching her slow pace with stops to rest. I would have left at noon but she mentioned being hungry and had only had coffee for breakfast after dealing with some early morning nausea.

I made her scrambled eggs and cooked a few hot dogs for her since she has so many eggs and a pack of hot dogs from my older sister in the fridge. While she was busy eating her lunch and watching Heartland I did as many of her dishes as possible to make things easier and clean up my mess from cooking.

I’d also learned that my mom got a letter from her IHSS social worker that she’d not opened in a day or two. It turns out that as the provider I have to be present to give my identification and social security as well as copies of both for their records on Monday.

Her furnace isn’t working and I’d forgotten to bring my matches to light it that day. Thankfully she’s got a work order for it on Monday too, so I might run into the people coming to fix it for her.

It kind of ruins my plans for Monday’s baking group but I just told my mom that I’d text one of the people who goes there too and send apologies for my absence. My mom is very anxious about having a stranger in her house, so I’ll be coming over early to make sure that she’s prepared and we’ve got a nice and easy assessment followed by chilling out and listening to her favorite bands.

I’m sorry about your dad, or more exactly your sister’s instance on making him eat. As long as he’s drinking water or getting some fluids, it’s okay. His comfort is more important.

I hope that your mom has a really good Thanksgiving, that you do as well.

I am glad that you opened the letter and found out about being there on Monday, even if it messed up your plans. You have time to get things organized and hopefully can rest up a bit before then.

Dad is about the same, but Mom is looking forward to coming here tomorrow. It has been at least two years that she has really packed a suitcase because she has been caring so hard for my dad. Si it will be good to get her out a bit, I hope. We will see how things go.

I hope that you have a blessed Thanksgiving as well. May it be a peaceful day. @integrityblues
