Hi everyone!

I've been struggling with Mixed Depression and Anxiety disorder for 3 years now (diagnosed) but have had it since teenage years.

I've been on and off work because of it as I struggle to cope and focus on work. Theres not much help moneywise in order to get better and the GP only increases my meds.

I recently got an offer for a new job (office) and thinking of leaving a career in Animation. As it has been stressing me out so much.

What do you guys think i should do? Should i pursue this new job or be unemployed and focus on getting better ?

Anything is appreciated thankyoi

Hello there.

I’m sorry what you’ve been going through. But from what I’m reading here, I’m not sure if passing on a new job is a wise decision if you are already seeking for a change of work.

ls it possible to try out the new job for a short while and see if it helps balance your time between work and focusing on your recovery? Or if you rather be unemployed to allow full-time for yourself to recover, do you know anyone else who’ll be there for you when needed?

Hope you’ll be able to get better soon.

@compassionateOak202

Thank you so much for your kind words.

I will try to see how I can balance the new job and my recovery.

I don't have anyone who can help me to recover full time at the moment. Which is why i had to look for a different job

compassionateOak202 gave some good advice here, so there's no need for me to repeat it.

I will only add that while starting a new job is always stressful, that usually abates once you've learned the basics. Unemployment is also stressful & is a common cause of depression for a great many people.

CompassionateOak gave good advice which I second (third?). I was diagnosed with major depression when I was 8 so throughout my life I’ve had both situations blow up in my depressed face; trying to get better with little else to focus on has made my depression much much worse, and trying to get better while taking on a new part time job has been so overwhelming that I shut down. That sounds negative but I mean it as a positive. Personally, I don’t really know what circumstances make my depression better or worse (even though I’ve tried for a LONG time to figure it all out) so I make decisions based on what I want and hope for the best. If you’re unhappy with your job, give this new one a try. If, at some point, you miss chasing your passion, go back to animation. Maybe stay involved with it to a lesser degree (like mentor someone or take a free online class/community) as you transition into this office job.

I would always give new jobs a shot. If they don't work, it isn't your fault. However, the guilt of not trying can be overwhelming.

Healing can take place in a variety of settings and times. @Corgi82
