No Where Else to Turn
Firstly, thank you for this great place. It is wonderful to have so many people here that actually genuinely care about you. I?ve only recently joined the website and hate lumping my problems onto other people, but I feel like I need to talk to someone and get advice on how I can get my life back on track.
I don?t really know where to start ? apart from the fact that I feel really low, lonely and depressed. I finally feel like I need to share these feelings, as recently I?ve been getting worse. I?ve even recently thought, ?is it actually worth living anymore?.
I?ve been feeling like this since 2010. It was after I spit up with a long term girlfriend. That?s not the only problem, but it?s what I can pinpoint as the start of my depression.
My life is a mess. I?m 27, still live at home, no girlfriend, don?t enjoy my job, my social life is non-existent. For the last few years I have also had problems with my eyes, which have prevented me from living a normal life. I?ve been going to the doctors for years about this, but it seems that there?s nothing that they can do for me. I?ve also had very bad trouble sleeping for the last few years which has really affected me too. All of this together is just too much. It overwhelms me. I don?t know how to fix this or where to start. I just think that death would be an easier way out.
The last few years I?ve felt really alone. I?ve tried to talk to people before about it, even just to chat to people on the internet - but it?s full of immature people, or people who are just not interested in listening. Hopefully someone here can help me.
I?ve been to the doctors many times and I?m going again soon. Do you think it is worth taking antidepressants? I?m worried as I have read terrible things about them. My life just seems in such a mess and I don?t even know where to start.
Thanks for listening. It feels good to finally get some of this off my chest and explain this stuff. It may not seem like a big deal to most, but it has really affected me. I appreciate any feedback. Will I benefit from antidepressants? Where do I start with putting my life back together?
Thank you.
Something that helped me to start feeling better , was that, i got a great counselor, that i trusted and felt like i could totally open up to her and tell her anything. Also, i found this great place. Have you tried some listeners here? There are people going through similar things and people training to do this professionally. Try multiple listeners, you can get many different perspectives on how to deal with your emotions.
Hi Whyme11,
I think a councillor would be a good idea. I already feel better for putting this out in the open on here. I am actually going to see my GP within a week or so, so I am going to ask about the counselling. I think it would really writing all this down and trying to put some kind of plan together. The worst part is the fact that I feel like I?ve trained and worked for years in the wrong field. It gives me really bad panic attacks.
Do you know much about antidepressants? Like is said, I feel like I need something to help with it, but I?m scared as I?ve heard bad things about them.
I have spoken to a couple of listeners and to be honest it?s just nice talking to someone who is mature and actually cares.
Many thanks.
@selfconfidentwatermelon8038, im not a doctor so I cant really say what is best for you, but my counselor wanted my doctor to write me a prescription for anti-depressants. He wrote me one and I filled it but havent used them. My counselor only told me about loss of orgasm, but when I looked at the side effects ot was talking about hallucinations, among other not so great sounding things. I started reading some books and trying to learn of alternative therapies and supplements. I read a book by Dr. Don Colbert, called Deadly Emotions. I am currently reading another book by him called , I think, Biblical Cures for Anxiety and Depression. One other book I found that has good info is Magnificent Mind at Any Age by Daniel G. Amen, M.D.. Like I said, im not a doctor, but I have personally found relief through these books. I hope that helps with what you asked.
Hi whyme11,
Thank you for the information. It has been really helpful. I shall certainly look at the books you mention. I have recently been thinking of taking meditation classes. I have heard these can really help and the lessons you learn give you a new outlook on life.
Thanks for taking the time to reply
Hello there! :)
Firstly I just want to tell you how sorry I am to hear you're going through so much. I know what it's like. It really is the worst experience.
It's absolutely amazing that you've reached out for help. That makes you one hell of a strong person. Keep that in mind.
It's great that you want to get your life back on track. Trust me, it is the first step to recovery.
You've got lots of little problems that are constituting to your depression. And since they are so overwhelming as a whole, I think you should try psychotherapy. Just take one thing at a time, you know.
When things get so tough, death usually seems like the easier way out. And it is. It is the easier option. But when you can get better, live better and have a wonderful life through some hardwork, then why resort to death? I know it's hard for you, trust me I know, but you still have more options.
I know it's confusing too, but with a little help you can untangle this mess. Also about antidepressants:I'll have you know that sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. It depends on what works for you. It's a lot of trial and error.
Remember that antidepressants won't make you magically happy or anything. They'll give you the sort of stability you need to further work on your problems.
It's okay even if you don't want to take antidepressants. You should try though. You never know what will work for you. The right combition of psychotherapy and medication could be good.
What would benefit you most is only something your doctor can tell you after evaluation.
I know depression's hard. It's very hard to keep going when things seem hopeless. You're doing it though. :)))
If you want to talk to me, just give me a PM. You can me any question. I have personal experience with depression and antidepressants.
Be well. <3
Hi LatteJoy,
Thank you so much for taking the time to rely to my post. You seems to really understand me. My life feels likeexactly how you say- a tangled mess, and has done for some time now. I just see my friends moving on and other people living good lives, everything going well for them.I don't resent them for it. I am honestly happy for them. ButallIhave ever done in my life, is work hard, try to do good and help other people. So it makes me wonder why i am the one left being unhappy. I suppose that's just life.
I will certainly take your advice on board and see what works for me.
Thanks again.
Anytime! :) We're all living different lives.Comparing your life with your friends' lives is not fair, is it? You're doing everythingyou can. Keep it up!Hope you feel better soon. :))) <3

Hi FunnyBranch19,
Thank you so much for reply to this and taking the time to read my post. I genuinely appreciate it.I've notmetsuch awonderful communityas 7 Cup of Tea.
Yes i know what you mean. Another example is when people say, "oh what have you got to be depressed about?" That is something that really hurts. No one can see whatsgoing on in your head, Everything mayseem fine to people on the outside, but insidethere are athousand thoughts a second running through your head and your desperately trying to hold back the tears.
Thanks for your advise on the antidepressants. It has beenhelpful.
Thanks again.
