Random thoughts upset me...?

This happens to me a lot and I'm not sure if it's normal. Every so often, I get these random thoughts that have seemingly no significance and yet they make me feel depressed and it uncomfortable. It makes no sense; these thoughts are completely random and i can't even explain most of them. They're just completely random images like someone turning on a light or a dog barking. They're usually more random than that, even, and I can't put them in words because they make no sense. I have no idea why I have these thoughts and why they upset me so much. Is this normal? Does anyone else experience this? I don't even know how to explain this properly so I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

This isn't a joke, by the way, so please don't make fun of me. This actually happens and I don't know why.

Wow really? I'm sorry people think that about you. It's good to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. Do you have certain sounds or words that trigger unpleasant feelings? Because that's another thing that I have experienced. Thanks for responding :)

I am dealing with this daily my thoughts totally control me. I am reading good books on getting rid of ego the main cause of thoughts. You have to realise that thoughts are only just that Thoughts. If you start training yourself to recognise when these thoughts appear and to not listen to them it helps. Its took me awhile to get to this point and im still struggling with it but things like Mindfulness help.

I am currently on the sick from work with depression at the moment trying to get to grips with this problem thats how bad thinking can be.

If you need anyone to talk too give me a shout and we'll try to help each other or anyone that struggles with thoughts taking control

Hi, thanks for commenting, and thanks for the tips. Mindfulness is something I've looked into and I've also tried meditation. It has been shown to be effective.
