Resigned job I love because I didn't feel safe
I've been a teacher 16 years and loved 99%of if. Our district kept dragging their feet in letting us know safety precautions they would take. The district literally 2 miles up the road is starting later, bought shields for desks, more masks, and created a rich remote option for students not wanting to go return. Mine - starting as usual. No size of class reduced, masks will be worn but not enforced. Remote is available but less than 10% of families chose it. Many people in my town and area believe this virus will vanish in November. That it's a total hoax. So I resigned last week. I've cried almost every day because I didn't want to end my career this way. I didn't get a party or zoom happy hour. Ha. Like I didn't matter even though I've been lauded as one of the best in my field. I'm always sought out as an example of a master teacher. Anyway. I feel very sad that it's over. I want to tell at people not wearing their mask to put one on. 2020 as a whole has totally sucked. Only good thing is grandbaby coming in October.

I am so sorry that you have to go through this. But I am so proud of you for sticking to your morals and values and not doing something that you're uncomfortable with. This has been a hard year. Hopefully things will get better soon!

@magneticShoulder3193 thank you. It feels a bit isolating since some of my co-workers did not deep down support me. But my bff does and will leave come December. My family feels better at least.

@goodWalker4788 That is so hard, I'm sorry! I'm a parent and our school district is going full virtual for the first quarter at least. Polling showed parents were pretty comfortable with virtual (hard as it is for us to continue careers while caring for kids), and that the majority of teachers were uncomfortable with in-person teaching in this environment. 11 percent of teachers said they'd have to take leave or quit if in-person were to start next month. You're not alone, even if your district has made you feel that way. I know it will turn out okay for you, even if this is a very hard year. Science is real, this is not a hoax, and there is room for great teachers once our society is not so out-of-whack with the reality of this bad situation.
