Saturday Depression

I'm not specifically diagnosed, but on weekends a lot I can get what I imagine for like "high functioning depression" to feel like? It starts with a normal morning, but as the day goes on I start to get like chills and irritable and I don't wanna move or do work because it feels like a lot of effort, and it takes very little for me to cry or get irrationally angry. This may not be the right place to post this but does anyone have any idea why this happens or how to alleviate the symptoms so I can get stuff done because it always comes at times where I want or need to do something but my body just mentally and physically can't handle it for some reason.

also I put quotes around high functioning depression because I didn't know if it was a term or not, just to clarify in case anyone sees it as coming across in a mocking tone

@Eliell

I get the same thing - Saturdays in particular are really bad days for me, too.

I think it's because I have college classes on weekdays, and work on Sundays, so I have some sort of structure or activity every day except Saturday. I always plan Saturday as a way to "get ahead," but when that day actually comes... nothing seems to ever happen. I spend all day in bed, just lying there or listening to music, usually only make it to 1 meal, and generally feel terrible all day.

THis saturday was a bit different for me because I forced myself to go on a walk this morning... I bargained with myself saying that if I did this one thing, I'd let myself do nothing else all day, and not feel bad about it.

It worked for me! I've heard aerobic exercise is as effective as clinical antidepressents (minus the side effects, cost and need for perscription) and at least for today, it did make me feel a bit better.

Anyway, I've felt very similar to you (and I definitely will again in the future, because all moods are cyclical) and just thought I'd share what helped me today. I know the same thing doesn't work for everybody, so I hope you manage to find your "thing" to make Saturdays suck a bit less, whatever that may be!

:-)
