Self-care is hard
As I've been working my way through my depression, I've realized that self-care is hard. I've been on "survival mode" constantly since I can remember and as I've been in college, that's been decreasing since I'm no longer in the environment I used to be in all the time. Hence where I think my depression came out of after talking about it with my counselor.
Today I had another weekly session with her, where we actually got through a lot of things today, which is great. One of those things was how next semester is going to be different for me. I've talked about improving my self-care and that I'm planning on seeking different options for it. One option that I'm going to try is massage therapy. I was doing my research and found a place in my town that does them and explains the benefits. It can help me relax, relieve anxiety, boost my immune system, and much more. So after talking with my counselor, I went online and requested an appointment for after Christmas. I know it will be expensive (I never usually spend much money on myself), but I need to invest in myself more. I'm proud of myself for taking this step in my care, because that means I can at least figure out what types of self-care are good or bad for me.
So, I guess what I'm trying to say for everyone else who reads this is that exploring options of self-care, even ones that seem out of reach, is a good idea. Do your research and see for yourself. It doesn't hurt to try. As I'm learning more and more on my own self-care, I see that more often. Self-care is hard, but it's worth it.
@AutumnEagle Self care is hard when we are not use to putting ourselves first. Message sounds wonderful <3 I love getting spa days on offer and going on them with my mum or friends.
I am just wondering what other self care methods we could use........
Myself I make crafts, do my coloring and zentangle. Take a bath with cup of tea and lush bath bomb, spend quality time with my doggies, go walks with the dogs, Erm treat myself to something nice to eat :D And of course make time for 7 cups and technology time :<3
What methods do others use for self care?
It is indeed hard, and expensive. But you are doing all the right things for yourself! You should be so proud!
That's so good! Self care can be really hard I know it's something I struggle with but it's important to try and keep at it so I'm glad you're investing sometime into pampering and looking after yourself!
