Slipping into old patterns
Hello everyone, I have been battling depression and anxiety most of my life. My upbringing was (to put it politely) rough and I remember being extremely depressed as a child. I have gone to counseling off and on for the past 7 years and I have been doing a lot better until the last year. Needless to say life happened and a bunch of stressful events have come crashing down on me. I can't really talk to my family and friends because they either don't understand what I'm going through or they think I should just "let it go." But letting major hurt go has been a problem for me. I just want to get back on track were I didn't over think everything and I had some semblance of self esteem. If anyone has any thoughts/feelings/advice or just kind words to help me put it would be greatly appreciated. Talk to you soon.

Thank you so much for sharing this loyal 😊. I'm really sorry you are going through all this. I understand that after all the progress going back to old patterns can be discouraging but reminding yourself you have been here before and made it through could help.
@loyalBeing54What you shared is very moving and shows great courage in expressing the pain you've carried over the years going through such difficult stages accepting therapy and now trying to get back on track are all steps worthy of respect. It's natural to feel misunderstood by those around you but you're not alone many feel what you feel even if they can't express it self confidence may waver but it’s not lost just hidden under the weight of experience and it will return gradually as you show yourself kindness and patience keep sharing your feelings it’s the beginning of healing and we’re here to listen

You are very brave for sharing all of that, really. It takes courage to open up especially when you've been carrying so much for so long. The fact that you’ve made it through a rough upbringing. faced depression and anxiety and kept going to therapy over the years? That’s not small. That’s resilient.
What you’re feeling is valid. Holding on to deep hurt doesn’t mean you’re weak. it means you were hurt deeply. And healing from that isn’t just about moving on. it’s about giving yourself the space to feel, understand, and work through it at your own pace.
You r not alone here. and you don’t have to pretend to be okay. Keep showing up, exactly as you are. that’s more than enough.
