Smiling

May 19th, 2016

Today I was walking home when a group of men where walking pass me. One of them said "nice smile". I'm already self conscious about my facial expressions thinking that I'm looking sad because I've has people say that about me in the past even though I feel fine, though I haven't heard that comment in a while. Now I feel like he was being sarcastic because I wasn't smiling exactly but had a neutral face which may look smiley without me knowing. I'm confused what do people think he meant by this? I'm I reading too much into it? Sorry if I sound like I'm being irrational frown

He may have been genuine!

I know lots of people are super self-conscious when receiving compliments. I tend to be like that sometimes too.

What reason would he had to be sarcastic? The fact you are thinking that makes me think you are just insecure on your looks. Instead of overthinking over what he could meant, I would try to acknowledge the fact that only a few people smile on the streets anymore! It's so refreshing to see a nice, smiling face and have the guts to appreciate it verbally. Maybe you made that guy's day with your pretty face! That is a better thought to keep onto. :)

@cristiana33 thanks so much you have really made me see a different side to this. I do tend to get a lot of comments from customers at work that I have a nice and beautiful smile, I guess it's just strange for me to hear it from a stranger on the street. I definitely suffering from being insecure about my looks based on what has been said about me in the past. I'm going to try my best to let it go and think more positively about my looks smiley

You're welcome! In Romanian we have a saying: if 3 people tell you that you're drunk, chances are ... you are! :)

It is definitely hard to hear it from a stranger, especially a man in a group of men -- we all know we tend to act differently in group than alone, but I'm always trying to think a bit further than what the stereotype is presenting.

Just know in your mind and your soul, all those beautiful or smart people are in general those who don't believe they are. But that doesn't make them any less beautiful or smart!
