Things to do when your motivation it at zero?

I've not been diagnosed with depression, so I will not say I'm depressed. But lately I have been having another of my really down episodes. It's not so bad when I'm working, because I have absolutely no choice but to be doing something for most of the day. But my work hours are very up and down at the moment. I'm only in for one day this week.

It's my days off which are the problem. I have no motivation to do anything at all, and just end up lying around staring at my blank computer screen all day. Nothing interets me. I forced myself to clean the house on Monday, which kept me busy for a while, but now the house is clean and tidy so that option is gone.

I don't have any hobbies anymore. I usually love movies and video games, but at the moment that doesn't interest me in the slightest. I have a few games I'm part way through, but I load one up and I'm just not interested at all and quit after 5 minutes.

I feel like I'm completely wasting time at the minute. When I'm at work I can't wait for my days off, but when I'm off I'm justy miserable and useless and waste the time. I want to change and I want to do something but I just can't get myself to do it, and it's making me really frustrated.

Any ideas? What do you guys do when you're feeling like this?

Thanks

@WouldYouKindly, I'm glad you posted this, and are trying to find a way to get the help and support you need. You could just have resigned yourself to staying stuck and hopeless, but you didn't. You reached out to somebody anybody that might be able to offer you something to spark some growth, or fan that flame of desire to do more with your days off and feel better.

I'm struggling with the exact same thing every day. I've managed to hold down a job for years now, and I like my job. There's opportunities @work to pour myself into being kind to people, which I'm hoping will help me learn to be kinder to myself. I function ok @work, but @home I still haven't learned how to get myself up and doing stuff, or spending time on things I enjoy.

I have to go to work in about an hour right now, but I'll post more to this thread later today. This is a topic I'm really interested in discussing.

Holding out hope for the both of us,

Very tired after a closing shift, and working an opening shift 9 hours from now. Must take care of physical needs and prepare for early day tomorrow. I hope to follow up on this post tomorrow night when I can think straight again. 💤

Every little step towards figthing depression is important. there is no miracle cure that will make you suddenly sparkle and shake it off, so you must gradually get used to seek out inspiration for all the things you routinely do. me, when i get a little depressed, i stay away from binging cause i know my pattern. if i get on that couch i will watch sad or bad movies until i am done with the self pity. these days, i see the tide coming, i just go out the house and meet some friends, get a few laughs and let spontaneity replace whatever else i was going to do. and at work, if the things are a little tense, i just get some headphones and filter the noise out.

@WouldYouKindly

Well here is what I do, there are the important tasks, that need to be done, and I change them into rutine to save as much energy as I can, then there are the none important ones, I try to make them as needed, sorting from the high to low priority, and I keep some time to do things I used to enjoy, it does help recharging my energy.

I hope you will find this helpful :)
