What is the first thing or phrase that you would say to your new therapist?
What would you say to your new therapist for the first time?
Here I go: "I already know 99% of what you are going to say to me and existing prescription medications do not work on me, unless you have something new to really help me, you are wasting my time, talking I can do with the trees, water or animals or true real friends, much better listeners..."
What would you say to ypur new therapist for the first time?
"CBT doesn't work. I refuse to do it. All you're doing is writing down your thoughts on a piece of paper. Sure, there's more to it. But after 9 years of depression, you really think trying to see things in another light is going to make this all go away? Do you really think writing down words is going to make me feel less dead? Because if that's all it takes... I've been doing journalling for those last 9 years and it doesn't get any better."
(Just needed to get that off my chest. CBT helps some people, but not all people.)
I struggle with being honest with therapists. I think if I was completely blunt and honest I'd want to say:
I really don't want to try any hippie bs like visualizing leaves floating down a river. Just tell it to me straight if I'm being a stupid fool. Just tell me straight up and don't sugarcoat things. I can take it. I'm not going to have a meltdown. Also, I'm super lazy (maybe because of the depression) and have been putting off major major things like going to see a doctor and having a working fire alarm. So, there's that. Also, I don't want to be here. I hate this. But, I'm doing it because "that's what you're supposed to do". I'm honestly not even sure if therapy has helped me. Do I sound mad? Because I am."
