What is the point of life at all?
I've been feeling recently that life has absolutely no point and that we exist for no reason what so ever, I feel as though everything I do is worthless, or meaningless, nothing seems to work out for me despite there being good evidence against that. I have absolutely no clue what to do anymore. Dreams, love, passion, interests they all seem so meaningless...
i feel the exact same way like 99% of the time. but then thetes always that 1% that keeps me goin. ya know.you gottakeep in mind that 1% of your life that makes it worth it.
i know how you feel.. i hope things get better for the both of us.. you are in my thoughts
I know what you mean simply find a risalei Nur collection and read it through. You can find lots of questions and answersin it like this one
You know, I feel that way 99% of the time too. And here's the thing, I don't consider myself depressed, I consider myself a realist. It really is meaningless, this thing we call life. There is no point to it if we look at it objectively. We are born, we toil in the fields of our choice, find a brief respite if we are lucky in people who treat us with some sort of compassion and love, and then, we die. In the meantime, most of the world lives in poverty, young women and men are sold to the highest bidder, the rest of us bury our despair at our fate by becoming outraged by the latest kerfuffle on the internet, or some nighttime bed story we watch on the TV. Yes, we should realize that it all is pointless. Life is just nature's way of keeping meat fresh. Death indeed would be most welcome if we look at the world and the human condition objectively.
So, what do we do? We do what humans have always done, events happen, and then we assign meaning to them. We can either stay with the nihilistic nightmare listed above, or we can choose to assign meaning that energizes, enlightens and fills us with empathy. We can celebrate the smallest of victories. Some days, I remind myself that I performed the ultimate act of courage, I got out of bed and functioned. I smile at someone and they smiled back. I listened to a colleague vent about her husband, her last customer, and did not say anything, and she thanked me for being such a good flistener. . My dad left my favorite cookies on the table when he stopped by my house to make sure I closed the garage door. Instead of translating all of that in my head as I am an idiot for not shutting the garage door again, or how horrible my colleague's marriage is, and how powerless I am to fix it, I can assign another meaning to it, I am courageous for getting out of bed, I am cared for because my dad helped me, I am a good listener. I have food to sustain me so I can make difference tomorrow. All of those things can matter in a meaningful way f I choose to think differently about them This takes courage, training, and discipline to think this way, especially if you are depressed and have other issues that would be best served by seeing a professional. You will screw up, you will go back to the old ways of thinking, you will fall off the bike. Pick yourself up, get out of bed again, and attempt to live life realizing that you are choosing one thought, and can always choose another one should it bring you peace.
We can choose our meaning for life. Truly, this is the truest act of Bravery, to find love, joy, peace, compassion in what is the meaningless darkness of life. Because being realistic does mean while Life is Nature's way of keeping meat fresh, I can ultimately choose what I believe how that meat is cooked, and served to the world.
Good luck, there is the physical, and then there are the stories we tell about the physical life we lead, Find the story you want to tell, and if it does not serve you, write a new one, that may include characters, and actions that will bring you to wholeness.
I feel the same way.. Nobody else around me does. Sometimes I feel like a freak. I don't know what's the value in life
I found this:
Your Life is Your Life....
don?t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is a light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can?t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you.
Life is pointless but it's living that gives it ameaning. Livingis the fineline between life and death. Look at the things we can do in that small period of time to change this world. We all bring a change to this world and give it meaning, every single one of us.
I emphasize with you when you say that life is meaningless. Certainly I have felt this way before, but then I remember something that helps me overcome this type of mindset. We live our lives in comparison to others and let us feel affected by the troubles that surround us. Yes, it is those troubles that make us stronger and wiser in overcoming further obstacles, but I think we let it affect us in a way that shuts us down. Our passion from the world is gone and our hope seems to have erased. However, I have chosen to believe that life actually is what we make of it. I choose to see myself as a strong, independent and happy human being willing to go that extra mile to help others without expecting something in return. This is allows me to live my life the way I choose to view it; a happy and constantly evolving one. I hope you find your passion and drive for life again. It's out there and inside of us!
I help people without expecting any returns but I feel like it is making me more jaded
