What the heck
Here at the junior college where I work, some upper-level person has decided that math tutoring doesn't do anyone any good at all, so they are taking out the math tutoring center. Not only that, they are enlarging the area by taking out a couple of offices, which includes mine. I am part of the IT group, and my job is helping student with their computers, helping the faculty with computers, and helping everyone else in this building with anything I can help with. The only place I can move to is behind locked doors. That will leave me unavailable to students, faculty, staff, anyone. Cuttently, people drop in my office on a regular basis, often with minor problems that I can fix readily. As of this summer, I will not be available to anyone, including my friends. There is almost nothing I can do. I have spoken with the head of construction, he didn't seem particularly concerned. My boss doesn't seem concerned, Leaves me feeling like no one really cares about me. I already know that when I retire, they will not replace me. They have not replaced anyone who has retired or left. What are they thinking?
@Offmytrack - It must be very disturbing and chaotic getting uprooted like that. I'm sorry that you have to go through this. What about this situation upsets you most?
Thanks, @OceanRest. I really needed someone to chime in. I'm not sure what part bothers me the most; between abandoning all the students that have trouble with math and myself getting kicked out of my office with no place to go. It makes me feel that the upper management doesn't care about students at all, the school would be a much better place without them. Remember when schools used to TEACH the students? Not anymore, the idea seems to be to give them harder and harder work that they can't do so they will fail and go somewhere else.
@Offmytrack - I wonder if there is any way in which you could continue helping students. And what is important to you in the teaching process?
