Who do you talk to about depression?

Do you talk to anyone in your life about your depression?

How do you start a conversation about depression with others? Are you ever afraid they'll judge you for it?

I usually try to talk to a counselor if I have the chance, because I know they're not suppose to judge and also they will definitely listen. In our school it's free to schedule a session with the counselor, so, it's quite useful.

I've only spoken to several people about it but the lack of support I received from them was so discouraging that now I only speak with people on this site.

@honestLime3565 I understand this. I find many people don't support those with depression as they should , and it can be very discouraging. I hope you find the support you need on this site!

@LyssSky03 Oh definitely! I get it that some people really just don't understand it, but then there's people who are just downright insensitive & that's the ones that get to me. Thank you also, I love this site. :)

I don't talk to anyone about my depression except the people on 7 cups because my family thinks that mental illnesses are ridiculous and judge people strongly who have depression so I haven't said anything, and they haven't noticed my depression for the last 4 years...

@LeviJ I'm sorry people haven't noticed I totally understand that. My family and friends didn't notice my depression for years either, and in the end I had to tell my parents and ask to get to counseling for myself. They still don't understand some times, and it's really hard, but I just want you to know you can be your own hero and get help. I'm glad you're finding help on 7 cups, but I'm sorry the people in your life aren't noticing. I hope you can find help

I am really happy you started this discussion! This is a really hard subject and I am glad we are able to share what worked for us, and I hope it can help others!

I personally have a hard time with talking about my depression and it is much easier to talk here, on 7 cups or people in my life who have gone through similar issues. In 7 cups I am just completely open and frank about the issues because I don't feel like I have to hide or feel ashamed that they know ( because they are not in my offline life I guess). My offline life friends it is a bit harder, but I do like speaking to them about it. So I often have to start out slow, like " I have been having an off day" or "I don't know I just feel strange (or sad) for no real reason".

Good luck to all who are reaching out!

@LyssSky03

I used to be very very depressed to the point where I just wanted to die. After telling a close friend and realising she told the year of head I was doomed. I don't really trust anyone especially not anyone in school as they have a procedure they must follow up. I prefer to tell strangers who probably wont judge me or people that have been through it. I have found people that have been through some osrt of grief or mental illness are much better than friends who dont know anything and think that depression is JUST sadness and is easy to overcome.
