Working For Nothing

This feeling has been recurrent, but it's really frustrating me today and I just need to get it out somewhere so that I won't continue to rant abut it to my wife or loved ones and upset them with my constant stream of negativity.

I work a full-time (40 hour) medical position at $15 or so an hour. I work 2:30pm to 11pm. Lately I've been putting in applications at both other companies and internally at my current company trying to get a day shift position. I find working in the evenings has begun to contribute to my depression (which isn;t uncommon among people who work off-shifts. Google search "shift depression" for more info.)

However, I've been striking out or just not hearing back for weeks at a time.

Despite making what I do, it isn't enough. I'm missing work for my depression or due to physical illness still. Even when I'm not sick, it seems like all I'm doing is playing catch-up with bills for the times that I am. I never make enough money. Everyone's answer to this is to go back to school so I can climb the ladder in my company. I have to have AT LEAST a bachelor's degree and currently have no degree or college experience at all other than a trade school certification.

I can't afford to go back to school, nor am I working a position that allows me time.

I'm not sure if I want to stay in medical. If I went back, I would go for IT.

Again. I can't afford to go back and I'm working bad hours for school.

I want to travel to go see friends abroad and have expereriences worth talking about.

I can't afford it.

Literally no matter what it is, I can't afford it.

@astuteScorpius I can relate. For me, depression and being unmotivated has held me back in school. I need a certain gpa to get into the community college by me but at this point I either dont have the energy to try as i once had, and/or just don't care anymore. I didn't make the grade requirement this last semester and (being a kid who has been literally stressing my plan for college since 5th grade) I found myself thinking tonight, what if I just don't go to college? I have a dream of working in the medical feild but this overwhelming feeling holds me back from doing even the smallest of tasks.

Hopefully we can get over this and not make any drastic decisions. I can't offer much good advice but, I hear you.
