as new year coming up, i see one more year ending up with me with less and less friends, and now, i am totally alone, i am 24 and i feel sad and depressed all the time,

people say its my fault i dont have friends, because i dont want to make one or shows initiative, ofcourse i want to, who loves being alone, i suffers from social anxiety and i live in a place where people look down at you if u mentioned you have a mental disorder, i have no one else in my life except my mom and dad and my brother, i always thought they are with me. but they never support me, when i told them about seriousness of my social anxiety, they shrugged it of saying i am just shy and its not true, whenever i get with them to share my sadness, either they tell me i am crazy or they start telling me they are more sad than me and i should feel sorry for them

i feel alone always, i spent all my life with no friends, and i dont even have anyone to share anything with, i dont rememeber any day when i slept peacefully and woke up feeling good

i also feel the feeling of regret all the time, i am looking for a job and may will get one but i never ever feel contempt, all my life i did what my parents told me to, went to school of their choice, colege of their choice , even doing a job of their choice, i wish i had money and time to do things i can but i am 24 and i have to get a job now, whenever i feel anyone , i feel sad , i always feel my life is nothing but empty and it will be empty,

i have to sleep everynight with this fact that i couldnt do anything in life and i am a failure and i will be a failure and will have to live all my life in regret and sadness

i cant remember last time i smiled, i hae left with no emotions, i dont want this life anymore

Hey,

I am 10 years older than you. I was exactly in your place in my twenties. I wasted my twenties being insecure, depressed, and alone. I finally got help which has changed my life. My breaking point was when I didn't want to live anymore. First I started taking antidepressants. They did soothe me to some degree. Then I went to therapy. It was the real game changer. All the problems you wrote I talked to my therapist about. She gave strategies to overcome these obstacles. You should consider it.

@Listentotherain80 is definitely correct! Therapy is usually the place where I see long term depression in clients start fading and having them start living life again. The human interaction and just knowing you have someone to talk to is the most important step in improving your life with depression. And don't think of social anxiety disorder as a disorder. Think of it as a lifestyle. There's nothing you can do to get rid of it, but there are ways to treat it and live a happy life. Thinking of it as a lifestyle make the negative connotation of "disorder" disappear in your thought process. This is called acceptance. Accepting the fact that you have social anxiety, but continuing to live and cope with it. It's possible that you don't actually have chronic depression, but instead the depression being a symptom of your social anxiety, which is definitely possible considering its one of the most common symptoms of any anxiety limitation. Also, try our self help guides for depression and anxiety and see if those help :) find a coping method that works for you and stick with it. A coping method could be anything from cooking to playing video games, as long as it's healthy and it makes you happy or feeling content. We are all here for you through your struggle so don't feel afraid to post back or contact a Listener :) deep breaths, you got this.

I feel the same. It's hard enough at this age these days, but then you add on to it the sheer loneliness this modern age seems to promote... I don't know. I do what I can, but nothing makes a difference. Nothing can even dent this anxiety consuming me. It would have been bad enough just feeling lost in life and confused and sad...

At 24, you're still young, so I hope you can figure it out. I know from experience that it doesn't pay to be obedient to a fault to other people, parents included.
