Asking directly for needs
Hello,
Something that seems to be helping the past few days is practicing directly asking for things I need to feel loved/closeness/warmth. As a personal two cents, I feel very frustrated/angry with individualistic approaches to mental health and people who say things like "don't depend on others for happiness" because this is very Western "man up" type of philosophy instead of a more communal approach where people support each other and care for the community as one body. There is nothing wrong with asking for help. It really takes vulnerability and strength. I actually think the fact I am too independent, and that I am afraid of leaning on and trusting others and receiving love is part of the problem.
1. Asking for physical contact - asking close friends to come over to snuggle (My friend is actually coming over tomorrow to do just that :) ).
2. Asking for verbalized affection - I asked my dad to send me nice emails and he sent me one saying "Have a good day today" =D
3. Asking for support with mental health - I also asked my dad to help me make Psychiatrist appointments. It made me feel like a little girl a bit to do that, but why should I have to battle this alone? My family is supposed to support me.
Let me know what you think and if you have tried similar things.
Love,
Day
@Daydreamer47 It does take courage to be more vulnerable. You sound a bit like me. I am too independent. I was raised that way and have become a very hard hearted person now at 30 years old. I envy those who can so freely express their feelings. Never be ashamed to show emotions. I often beat around the bush. Do what you feel is right and be happy. Only you know what makes you feel happy, but love from others can make a big difference. :)
