Desperate for a girlfriend

I'm only 18 and about to graduate high school but I really want to take a girl with me to my senior prom. Since senior prom is a once in a lifetime event I want it to be the best day ever. I went on over 20 different dating apps and even spent about $100 on them but I've had no luck. I'm just starting to give up on life because I've never been in a relationship in my life and I fear it'll remain that way😔

@DINOMITE29 Eighteen? I had my first relationship/romantic interest at twenty-five! cheeky

I know there is a constant pressure from society to have a partner, but I've always found it better to let things happen organically instead of forcing it. As far as your prom goes, even if you aren't able to find a date, how about taking some friends and having fun with them? When I look back on my teen years, I don't miss or regret the guys I didn't date. I miss the memories of just being young and care free. It's a special time in your life right now, girlfriend or no girlfriend. I wouldn't waste my time worrying about a date, if it happens it happens. I know that's easier said than done but believe me, the years go by quickly! Eventually you'll be in a relationship or married and you'll look back on these times and wish you were eighteen and single again. wink

Good luck and take care, wishing you all the best at your prom! heart

My friends won't be able come with me. One already has a date and I don't like to be the 3rd wheel while the other one will be working. I don't wanna go alone😔

@DINOMITE29 I'm sorry, it sounds like you feel awfully discouraged sad

So even if you were to socialize with the people around, you'd still feel alone? I know a lot of teens don't have dates, I personally never went to my prom. Not a big fan of dancing or being with a bunch of people.

@TrueArrow

I just want to know what it's like being loved and what love feels like. I only know hate, sadness, and pain😣

@DINOMITE29 Oh hun, I'm so sorry sad I know it's difficult but think about it, you'll be going to college soon or working and starting your own life. You'll be able to make your own choices and that is something to look forward to. Please don't give up, you'll find the love that you need. Life always has ups and downs, some people find more downs than ups, but I guarantee you that one day life won't be so hard and sad. heart

@TrueArrow

Agreed that a lot of people go without dates or don't dance exclusively with their dates. I went to prom with my best friend and I enjoyed getting to hang out with her and see my other friends and just dance. I also didn't really date until my twenties either, I think it's a lot more common than people think.

@Pleiades20 I'd even go as far as to say that dating in your twenties or even thirties is slowly increasing in popularity. I know a lot of people who didn't start dating until they were in their twenties and even thirties. My father didn't get married until he was forty, and then that's when he and my mother had my sister and I. It's not odd at all and it certainly doesn't mean you'll be forever alone.

I find it shocking how so many teens think they need to start dating so early, or there is something wrong with them. frown

@DINOMITE29 Same there, single since birth 18 years ago. Not awkward talking to girls but people think of as an old person and old doesn't attract 18 years old girlsfrown.

@DINOMITE29 - Congrats on graduating from high school in some months! Where I live at we have no prom but from the ones I have seen that have it, it looks like it could be a stressful time for people that are not in a relationship. I suggest you take things one step at a time and evaluate what you are really looking for.

Are you looking for someone to just go with you to the prom?

Are you looking for a girlfriend to kerb the loneliness?

Are you looking for someone whom you feel that there could be a future with because you can't imagine life without them?

Sometimes understanding what we really want out of the situation is the very first step towards the right solution. For example, if you want to go to prom with someone who you can look back and think "wow it was awesome to spend the prom with such a wonderful person on my side", you might not bother not having someone if they do not make you feel that way. Or you might just want the company, so it doesn't bother you if the person is just a friend or an acquaintance. Sometimes it is better to be alone than to be in the wrong relationship.
