Loneliness is a trigger for a depressive episode

Has anyone ever felt like that? That being alone is a trigger for becoming depressed? I don’t know it’s weird. I have Major depressive disorder as well as PTSD. I feel I am incapable of being alone. I have been this way for about 10 years now. Even if I am alone for a few hours I begin to panic. When I’m alone I start to become afraid because I am left alone with my thoughts. Whereas, when I am around someone it keeps me distracted from my negative thoughts. I tend to hold in how I feel around people so they don’t judge me for my disability. I cannot keep living this way! My roommate walked out on me and I have been alone for 3 days now. This is the LONGEST time I have been left by myself in 10 years! I don’t know what to do with myself! I’ve been trying to keep my mind busy by listening to music, watching tv, talking to my bunny, or even myself🤦🏽‍♀️. I can do it, I can do it! But... can I?

Most definately. Isolation increases the risk factors substantially for me as the two feeds off of each other as depression in itself causes me to self-isolate. Like you say, you are left alone with your own thoughts and there is no one to support or distract you.

Have you thought about trying to find a new roommate?
