Lonely, have no friends, depressed

Hi, this is my first post. I'm 18yo and I just feel desperate right now. I finished high school early so after christmas when everyone went back to school I stayed home. It wouldn't have made a difference because I don't have any friends. I don't start college until summer so I've just been at home. Theres nothing to do in my area. There's no one my age around and I'm just disgusted. I'm very depressed and I just need some help. I feel like I'm stuck in a cage.

I'm sorry to hear you're having a difficult time right now. I know it can be awful to feel so lonely. Maybe you could find a job somewhere local? It could provide you with some social interaction with all kinds of people, and an opportunity to help others while earning money at the same time. Or you could even volunteer somewhere.

I hope you feel better soon and that your loneliness will fade away.

Hi there. Well everyone can relate. The end of highschool is a bit overhwelming specially socially.

Don't feel down. If you truly enjoy college and make an effort you'll make friends.

Meanwhile though, try to go out. Even if there's "nothing to do". Just going out to a grocery store or a park helps ALOT. Staying inside your house overthinking this is the worst you can do. Will only make your sadness worst and your social skills worst too

Best of luck :)

I'm not 18 or any older but I just started highschool and I seriously relate, I have a really small social life and I'm just that loner in the classroom. Well, I DO have 3 friends in school but 2 of them seem to have closer friendships with other people and 1 is a toxic friend who bullies me because of my awkwardness, how I'm 'dumb" and "boring to talk to" and how "I don't have a social life (so I'm not considering this one as a friend).. and that toxic friend is also enjoying the company of her better friends so yeah..

having no friends IRL to have real laughs with is the reason my depression has been growing too, but at the same time I somehow don't want real life friends because for me it's difficult to find a true and great one and nowadays the people I see around me are just loud extroverts enjoying their lives with their own friends, and don't have any of my interests either...

the only good and closer friends I have so far are my online friends.. yes, I have more online friends than real life friends... how sad.

Hi there,

I just want to say you're definatly not alone. I struggled throughout highschool. Most days I ate alone in the bathroom because I had one friend and if she wasn't at school that day then I had no one. I hid myself from the world because I felt like a failure and I had to dropout at one point.... I was told to kill myself on a daily basis. I was tripped in the hallways ... people yelled slut at me and every other insult imaginiable... but you know what I picked myself up and went back to night school despite having a horrible expirience with bullying I told myself no more... that against all odds I would make something out of myself and I never looked back. I still struggle but being put in those situations has made me more self aware and also I no longer associte with toxic people. I know what to look out for and I seriously hope you know that you aren't alone there is a whole website dedicated to people like us. Rise above love. Learn to work on yourself and try to stay positive I know its easier said then done. Hang in there .

Hey,

It's okay to feel lonely. Sucks, but it's okay. The horrible thing about loneliness is that basically everyone is lonely, and we all just hide it in different ways - but that's also the BEAUTIFUL thing about loneliness! We all need people, so we can fulfill each other.

When I feel lonely, I read books to expand my mind, pet my cat, volunteer places, and talk to the elderly people around - many of them would love the company!

Things get better, I promise.
