Am I depressed?

Hey there Community,

I'm not sure if I truly am depressed or not and I don't want to jump to any conclusions and say that I am, even though I don't have any idea what I'm talking about. So I thought I could ask you to help me find out. By asking me anything you need to know in order to help me out with my uncertainty.

I'll answer a first question: I've had many serious thoughts about harming myself, but I've never done it yet. (Again, I have no real idea about depression, so I don't know if this helps or not but I just wanted to say it)

Thanks for your support,

-B

Hi there @sensitiveSugar8860

7cups has a great resource in the Self-Help guides to help you better understand what Depression is and when to seek help.

Here's the link:

https://www.7cups.com/depression-help-online/

I don't count myself qualified to tell you if yo do or do not have depression, but I hope the guide can give you some insights. At the very least, it could be a good starting point.

Good luck, and stay strong <3

Hello,

Clinical depression has several of the following features: poor concentration, low energy, lack of enjoyment in things you previously enjoyed, disturbance of appetite, sleep difficulties, low mood, lack of hope about the future, negative views about yourself. Typically if you have several of these symptoms it is likely you are experiencing depression and should consult a health professional

I hope this helps.

Hey @sensitiveSugar8860 !
I'm sorry you're struggling and confused. I have been there and it's not a fun place to be.
It's important for you to know that you can't really be diagnosed on 7cups, or by a person who is not a mental health professional in general. But trust me: If you are worried about your mental health and have thoughts of hurting yourself, the best thing is to talk to a counsellor, general practicioner, a psychiatrist or a therapist, in short, a professional, as soon as possible. That can be scary, but just like with any other illness, it's better to react as early as possible to prevent it from getting worse or turning chronic. Whatever the outcome may be, it's best to know what's happening so you can take the necessary action and so you can stop worrying.
Know that you are not alone, and that if you need additional support, you can always contact a listener. :) Take care and good luck!
