Can someone with chronic depression be able to be from it...?
My depression started when my life turned upside down back in high school. I had been diagnosed with Rheumatic Heart Disease. I often get panic attacks that would often disrupt the class and had me be assisted to the infirmary. This happened a lot of times to the point that one day our English teacher jokingly said that I should be put inside a freezer, and everyone found it funny that they all laughed at the joke.
When my father found out about this because of me accidentally telling it, the whole school went into chaos as well as my life. My friends who I used to hang out with, one by one, had walked out of my life, because they didnt want to suffer my father's wrath. That's such a tough situation. I'm sorry you went through that.
To answer your question, yes, depression is very treatable. There are some people who have chronic depression that never seems to lift, but the majority of people will experience some relief from their symptoms. (Then there is an increased chance of recurrance, but that's another story.)
Chronic illness definitely makes it harder to treat depression, but not impossible. I have rheumatoid arthritis, and depression is a very common symptom of that. Anything that causes pain and creates unpredictability in your life can exacerbate the symptoms of depression.
The key is to find the things you have control over. What can you do to fight depression? You've already taken a big step by coming here and talking about it, and there are lots of supportive resources on 7 Cups. You may also find a therapist you trust to help you make some plans on how to move ahead with goals and self-development. It's a setback to not finish school, but there is still SO MUCH you can do with your life to find fulfillment.
There is a self-help guide here on panic attacks. Have you seen it? Sometimes, just feeling like you have tools to get you through will reduce the symptoms - even when they are caused by something physiological.
