Ever feel too "smart" to be depressed?

I have been battling depression from the age of 14 and I am 35 now. I have received help over the years when I start thinking of suicide or through traumatic events. I have never been able to afford full therapy. I've been put in groups, but they don't work for me. I tend to focus on making others feel better. Over the years I have been given, and used, many tools to get me through it. I find that as I get older, I feel more and more stupid for being depressed. I understand what it is and how to cope but I still can't contol it at its worst. I shouldn't even being feeling depressed if my logic tells me it's wrong. Am I ever going to be okay?

@GraceisAmazing Thank you. Just knowing someone has the same thoughts helps. I'm new at this too. I am uncomfortable asking for help, so my daughter suggested I give this a try. Glad I did. It took some weight off of me.

I am new to actually being able to be on a site like this and get help and help others, so I can't really give you any advice. But I will tell you one thing. You're never too smart to be depressed. Being smart, or pretty, or talented, etc, doesn't prevent you from becoming depressed. I don't know what helps you feel better. I do know that for me, having someone believe in me when I and everyone don't, and then being able to pass that on to someone else is the best way for me. So my advice for now- Experiment with some good coping methods and choose the one that works best for you and don't let anyone pull you away from your goal.

@quasarbunny i relate to this. i often overanalyze my mind so much so that i can fix every problem i have with logic, but then eventually end up being overthrown by a tidal wave of emotions and nonsense. i feel pretty pathetic and dumb after that.
