Guilt/ shame
A lot of my depression and anxiety over the years comes from deep guilt and shame From having more than a lot of the people that I grew up around (I grew up in poor countries). I used to feel angry at others for having more, and I think inequality is a deep problem. But I hold myself back from doing better, financially, professionally, and socially, because I feel like I don’t deserve it and haven’t earned it. It’s eating me up inside, and I want it to stop. I’m not responsible for or able to save the whole world. I’m trying hard to let it girl. Anyone have any advice?
@hardworkingShip1886 I understand that guilt and shame stemming from your experiences and the inequality you've witnessed can have a significant impact on your mental well-being. It's commendable that you recognize the need to address these feelings and find a way to move forward.
Firstly, it's important to acknowledge that you are not personally responsible for the inequality in the world. While it's natural to feel empathy and concern for others, it's crucial to remember that you alone cannot solve all the world's problems. Shifting your mindset towards focusing on what you can do within your means can help alleviate some guilt and pressure you may be experiencing.
Recognize your own worth and the potential you have to make a positive impact, both on a personal level and within your community. It's essential to challenge the belief that you don't deserve success or happiness. Remind yourself that everyone deserves a chance to thrive, including yourself.
You can work just in your own corner to bring kindness and caring. Those things are what radically challenge inequality. Some days will be overwhelming, but when you remember that you are part of a long stream headed towards justice it helps. You don't have to solve everything yourself. You do deserve everything that you have no matter where you have come from. @hardworkingShip1886
