How can I help my depressed fiance?
@WisconsonGurl91
I'm in the same boat as you. My husband is depressed and talks about how he wants to stop existing, and how I'm the only reason he hasn't ended himself yet. It's heartwrenching to know someone you love so dearly is suffering so badly... It's terribly frightening to imagine that you might come home one day to a corpse. I feel sick thinking about it, honestly.
I don't know what will help your fiance. My husband knows he is depressed but is also reluctant (read obstinantly opposed) to medication or therapy. Doesn't want to talk about it. I don't know what to do, either : (
At the moment I'm trying to just be a positive light in his life. I don't withhold love even though his moods can be so hard to deal with sometimes. I also try to get him out of the house and active, because I know that boy doesn't get enough exercise and won't do it by himself, and it's been shown that daily physical activity helps with depression.
What have you tried to do to help your fiance?

Dear Wisconson Gurl,
It must be extremely difficult for you to watch someone you love feel so bad and even suggest suicide to you - it sounds like such a traumatic experience for you. Being involved with someone with depression can be exhausting (I don't need to state the obvious!)... what are you doing for YOU? Self-care is really important.
As for helping your fiance, it really comes from within - only they can decide that they want help. Do you know of any therapists/support groups nearby that you could gently suggest they get support from? Of course that decision is entirely upto them and the best thing you can do is be there for support when they need it... someone supportive and a safe place for them to share their concerns. It's going to be difficult for you because there is the chance that your fiance may not get help and it'll become exhausting for you... remember you cannot fix anyone. Only they have that control over their well-being but you can be there to be a good listener as I'm sure you are.
We're here for you at 7Cups if you need to talk about your concerns.

and I just reread and it says that your partner will not accept help... this is the difficult part because of course you can't make it happen for them. How long has this been going on for? How long have you been in a relationship with them?
