First off, congratuations on wanting to help your boyfriend out with his depression :) Maybe learning more about it could help you better understand how to help. I recommend The Noonday Demon by Solomon. Other than that, supporting him shows that you care and that is great

@BlackRoses180 My girlfriend left after she became very depressed. She didn't feel like the had the energy to be a good girlfriend, and doing so made her feel like she was letting me down constantly. I hope she comes back soon because I miss her and love her so much. Anyway. I digress.

As to why he left, people with depression make rash life decisions. It is a classic symptom of depression. I agree that him leaving might really not be beneficial for either of you, but he is in a bad place right now, and his depression is clouding his thinking.

You asked how you can help. That's the hard question to answer. It depends on the person. With my ex, I tried to be there for her, checking on her every day. Then, she confronted me and basically told me to back off. It really depends on the person, but it is a fine balance between showing him that he is important to you and that you're here for him while also not getting into his personal space when he needs some space. I've found that it is helpful to just flat-out ask how and if you can help in any way. But you are the expert of your own situation, and I have never walked a day in your shoes.
