i'm not really sure how to go about this but i feel empty and like i'm floating. I'm physically exhausted even though i get enough sleep. i think i've been depressed for quite a while....

Starting to destroy relationships and myself.

I have to go to sleep with the light on because i think i see people and faces and hear whispering.

I struggle to get up any more: my limbs feel heavy.

I think about dying a lot.

The thing is, i'm almost drowning in self pity. i hate being so self centred. what can i do about it?

Hey, lala heart

What makes you think that you are self pitying? What you described sounds serious and pretty scary. You may want to take a step back and perhaps focus on self care, instead of beating yourself up. We all have moments of self pity, but that doesn't mean you should ignore a potential mental health issue. It's important that you are able to get yourself in a healthy mindset, before casting self blame. I'm not suggesting that you are wrong, but there seems to be more pressing matters in your circumstance. Depression is a very serious mental issue and it's important to work on treatment, so you can feel better.

What do you think? xx

When you're drowning in that much darkness it can be extremely hard to maintain a recovery process. I ended up needing medication and more vitamin D3 intake just so that I could self-care properly and regain enough energy (making heavy limb feeling stop). If you think about dying a lot it sounds like you need to speak with your GP doctor or psychiatrist that can assess your situation and offer treatment options.

A lot of people assume that just because someone is able to move some of the time that it's automatically something under the person's control like "self-pity" that can just be stopped like flipping a light switch. Anyone who tells you it's that easy is wrong. It doesn't have to take a long time to recover and sometimes doesn't the sooner you get help. It can get better only if you stay alive and accept the help that's out there. If it's not possible to see a doctor immediately I recommend spending some time listening to the mindfulness audio here on 7cups (path menu) and go through some of the applicable self help guides (depression, anxiety and 7cups of tea guide especially). The mindfulness audio helps me decrease daily anxiety which in turn helps decrease depression. It's a repetitive thing and can be done in as little as 3-10 minutes or as long as you have time for. Doesn't even require a long attention span.

Some amount of hearing sounds similar to voices may be normal especially if your sleeping isn't allowing you to reach REM state for long enough. I know a few people with sleep apnea which is another thing the doctor would be wise to check for.
