So here are my questions:

1) Does depression ever go away permanently?

1a) If depression is a side effect of an illness can it be cured too?

1b) If you had depression before but it went away and resurfaced when you had an illness is depression a side effect or just coming back?

2) How do you deal with being exhausted all day every day and finding motivation to do anything especially if you work from home?

3) How do you work out when you have zero energy?

4) What has helped you and how long have you been depressed?

Here are my answers.

1) Yes

1a) Yes

1b) Impossible to say. Could even be a bit of both.

2) Depends. It could be depression, and the solution is to get treatment for the depression. Or it could be some other medical cause. Or it could be a mixture of depression and some other medical cause. So a doctor should probably investigate and decide what's going on.

3) You don't. It's not being kind to yourself.

4) I'm not depressed. I'm a psychotherapist. Psychotherapy helps many people to recover from depression, and it usually takes between a few weeks and a few months to work. It doesn't make any difference how long you were depressed before starting treatment.

@RodWhiteley

What does psychotherapy involve?

Psychotherapy for depression usually involves talking with a therapist to find out what specific thought processes are causing the depression in your case, and then replacing them with thought processes that work better for you. The finding out part is the important part. Once you understand the thought processes involved in your particular case, replacing them is usually pretty easy and permanent. However, not all therapists have exactly the same approach, and this is just the way I think of it.

I'm sorry it took so long for me to reply. I don't log in here very often.
