I think I may be depressed

I've been feeling so down lately, December has literally been one of the worst months of my life. At the very start of the month, I had a major car accident, luckily i got away with just minor back pain. Two weeks later my boyfriend broke up with me which i've been finding very difficult and lastly i've been having major issues with my parents, who have made me feel completely unloved and unwanted. Everything is just getting to me, and i have no motivation to even get up out of bed. I feel like breaking down in tears constantly and i'm constantly tired and feeling drained. Are these signs of depression or am i being silly?

Depression can be felt both physically and mentally. If those feelings of hoplessness and the physical tiredness has persisted for more than two weeks , there is a chance that it might be depression. If you are having continued thought patterns of self negativity , please seek out proffesional help.

First, I'd like to express my sympathy. Depression is not an enjoyable experience, and I'm sorry that you seem to be suffering from it.

I'd like to preface this by saying that If you seem to be so considerably distressed about this, I would recommend you consider seeing a psychologist or therapist. They will be the most effective in helping you figure out what is going on.

One of the things to consider is whether or not this depression is situational, or a long standing pattern of behaviour. Situational depression is typically explained by unfortunate events, like those you have experienced. However, these situations can also trigger an episode in people who have depression. I would consider whether or not you saw any of these symptoms at other times in your life.

Also, I would consider the extent to which you are experiencing Impairment in your functioning. The more seriously you are having difficulty getting about your life, the more you might be in need of help.

Again, I'd recommend seeing a professional. This is just the advice Ican give from my studies and personal experiences. I wish you all the best!

Thank you! This post has been very helpful! I find I go through stages of these types of feelings every so often and all the things that's happened in December has triggered it again! I used to go to counsellingfor certain issues but I just didn't find it helped but I'm not sure if that's because I didn't stick it for long enough, so I may reconsider it.

I couldn't help but relate to your post. I had acar accident when I was younger, walked away lucky but had to get chirp and physical therapy for well up to a year after. Car accident car be a jarring and a "stress to depression" event. Oh, so if you have no visabledamage, people can be extremely insensitive. And that's not ignorance it's just, they don't know because they never went through it or forgot.

I'm in agreement with the other advice. Get help. It's out there, just ask. Its a sign of strength not weakness when you realize some of it is too big to handle alone.
