I think that im ugly and I dont know what to do
I have beed going though depression for a very long time now. About 9 years and im 21 and female. I have never liked the way that I look. I think my chin is huge, I have a large jawline, big nose, and a browbone that my forehead seems to look flatter and get lines on it while I sleep because of this. This all bothers me. I had to shave my hair off to because of my alopecia. I am also animic and have really fair skin. Im sick of looking this way. I stop losing motivation into doing things as well. I take care of my skin and I try to take care of myself but nothing seems to work because that cant change how bad I see myself in the mirror. When I get stressed and upset my face gets puffy like my jawline and chin and longer like and skin looks a lot worse like right now and I look like a total different person. My boyfriend says that im pretty to him and nothing is wrong and he says will be honest the days that I look bad. He also says every mirror and lighting will make a big difference like he says some mirrors make my face look longer and fater while he says I dont even look like that or my skin will look worse in like florecent lighting or cloudy days. I get really upset when I see myself in the mirror and get panic attacks sometimes because of the way I may look. It hurts being and feeling like this all the time and not being happy. I do compare myself to other girls as well which I know is a bad thing as well. I just dont know what to do and I keep losing hope in myself. Sorry if this was to long.
@goomyprincess28 It's kind of hard to overcome all the cultural images we are shown constantly. "This is what beauty is." And generally, that means skinny, fine boned, small nose.... It's all relative, though. Cultural definition of beauty varies through the ages, and even now from country to country.
Have you seen The Greatest Showman? If not, I highly recommend it. It reminds you just how little it matters to be like everyone else. And that what makes you different makes you special. Very empowering!
Negative self-talk can be overcome. One simple technique is that anytime you find yourself criticizing how you look, you imagine a giant STOP sign. Also, consider people who are not considered beautiful (by our narrow cultural standards) but who have made a difference in the world. Mother Theresa, Ghandi, Stephen Hawking, just to name a few; Try making a list of your own and keep adding to it as you think of more. Ask yourself if they were any less valuable as human beings, or less worthy of love, because of their appearance.
Finally, if you haven't tried meditation, I highly recommend it. The mindfulness meditations on 7 Cups are a good place to start! This practice will help you learn to watch your thoughts and recognize they are only thoughts. It helps you create a little space from the constant chatter in the brain. :)

I am sure you are pretty
I wish you had a photo
Even without seeing it I know you are pretty
Trust me
I think God creates everyone pretty in a different way.
I am sure you rock.
Beauty for me was never a problem: I never paid much attention to my appearance until middle school. There, people started making fun at me because I was slightly fat, and they started comparing me to a local politician who is especially famous for her ugliness. This and a series of other causes led me to think I was ugly and there was nothing to do about it. I never talked to any of the boys I had a crush on because I would think they would never date me, rather than going out with all the other beautiful girls in the school. Then, a girl in my class decided to help me, so she invited me several times to her house so we could study together and then she could do my hair, my nails or my makeup, so that I would appear more beautiful. It worked (at least until we fought because she didn't want to admit she cheated on a test), in fact still today I use the shampoo she suggested me (but only rarely because it costs a lot).
Today I still don't consider myself to be beautiful, although some people have actually told me that (but most of them were my relatives, old horny men on public transportation or horny guys on social media, so I don't know if this information is 100% realiable or not), but I don't think either I'm the ugliest thing in the universe. I've started to groom myself more, experimenting with makeup and hairstyle (but nothing excessive: I just bought a couple of lipsticks, and let my hair grow for the first time in years), changing my deodorant, perfume, shampoo, putting on nail polish, reducing the size of my eyebrows... Small things, that don't take too much effort, but now I like myself more than when I was 12 or 13. Also, once I tried recollecting all the nice things people ever said or did to me, and wrote a poem: the people who have read it really liked it, and even I can say it is one of the best poems I have ever written, because it reminds me of all the people for whom I am nice to look at, or pleasant to spend time with.
I hope my story has been useful to you in some way.
