Missing Antidepressants...?

Ah, hello there! Thank you very much for taking the time to read this, and to help me! With that said, I'll get straight to the point. I was just wondering, is it bad for you to continually miss taking your antidepressants...? I've looked it up and pretty much everyone says it's detrimental to your health, and can make your depression much worse... Honestly, it started when I just forgot to take it every once and awhile. I had missed a few days here and there, but surprisingly, nothing bad seemed to be happening to me. Er, in context, my mood was stable, I wasn't having crying spells at night like I did before I took the medication, etc. Once I noticed I was doing fine without it, I was really happy. I never liked the thought of taking pills, as it just felt like I was someone broken who needs medical drugs to fix themselves... Now I purposefully miss my medication. I think it might be a way of self-sabotage, or maybe I'm just scared of taking it. I'm not too sure myself. Will this hurt me later on...? I don't have any side effects now, but I'm still a little scared...

I'm not completely sure what you mean... I apologize if I upset you in any way, or was offensive in my question. I'm really sorry. I just really don't want to feel broken or messed up anymore... At least from what I've seen, there's a noticeable stigma around antidepressants and therapy, and I don't that people to pity or look down on me... I don't know, I... I'm sorry.

I do know that they're important though. They actually helped me a lot with stopping my depressive episodes... (They did cause me to have a lot more nightmares than I normally have, but it's cleared up a bit now.) I'm just not sure what to do, and I'm scared that I've done something bad that will make my condition way worse...

That's good that your great grandmother was able to live a more more happily with the medication...! I'm not saying that antidepressants are necessarily a bad thing, I just feel ashamed of taking it, if that makes any sort of sense... I really want to get better, but the things people suggest to me for help, (like therapy, support groups, etc. etc.) just makes me feel embarrassed. I really hate having depression, and I'm so ashamed of it, ahh...;;

noo dont be ashamed of it. if you are being ashamed you let it be a part of yourself. if you see and treat it as an illness you can accept and fight it! its not u who fails or is lazy its an illness. dont identify with it and dont be ashamed its not you. when you go to therapy or do suolort groups you are fighting it! thats nothing to be emberassed of, you should be proud that you started the battle and that you are on your way to being yourself again.

I am glad they did. Smile if they helped someone reach 97 in peace, it is a victory for depression sufferers...I feel glad for your grandmother, such a respectable age...🤗😊

@Justalittleperson

The result can be very dangerous. It can cause a condition called Tardive Dyskinesia, reduction in dosing can have a negative impact on psychiatric status

Withdrawal can exacerbate TD symptoms

TD symptoms often persist even after discontinuation or dose reduction

See, that's why medical supervision and compliance to treatment programs are serious and essential.

Don't loose hope. I think the main reason we don't see success stories is because when people get better, they are back in the game living and dont look back, and dont post any more. Thats probabaly what we all need to try to do. Good luck
