Hi guys!! I am an actress and I have depression. I opened this discussion to talk about how depression affects people that work in the arts, or how depression helps create new content, or whatever you guys want to talk about really.....
I studied drama at school and my dream is to become an actress, but I am terrified and depressed and I stoped believing in myself. So, to be honest I havent had an acting gig yet.. lol
anyway. hugs to everyone!!
Lets talk about our experiences.

There was a movie about "the black swan", a ballerina so immersed in her role she actually grew wings in the end...

Art is about embracing depression, best creations in art , Van Gogh, Beethoven, Bach, Bruegel father and son, whether acting, music, painting it is about emotions suffering, madness or depression or passion art is about emotions...

Robin Williams, my idol, a natural comedy actor committed suicide due to depression...

Art is a torment, you become one with the moods of the waters...you identify with basic particles, you feel, you are...

@GreyMirror yes, art could be seen as a discipline of total immersion but not to the point of completely destroying yourself. Art is a way to express and educate in a way, but not to the extent of becoming crazy. Maybe thats truly my fear, that my art could become a great one but my persona will be lost.
Still, there has to be another way to succeed. I dont want my fans (if i ever have some) to think i was great but i was troubled/depressed. i want to set a good and healthy example despite of my depression. i want to encourage people to speak out for depression and that they can also succeed, than to continue with the taboo that 'art people' are just troubled geniuses.

The answer is "control" and mastery...

I call actirs "face dancers" like the famous "face dancers" in Frank Herbert's Dune...

When you have control you can become anyone and a ythjng, shift shape and emotions at the snap of the finger...

But that requires mastery and self confidence not doubt...

Nevermind, just relax, every one of us has a place in this world and you shall fit in yours...

@GreyMirror

Better than "face dancers" which are actors are the "mond benders", magicians and mentats who can manipulate weak masses or individuals...

"Legal" is just a contraint on freedom...

They roam free in Germany...

I liked to visit them at the zoo, they were never depressed, they looked me in the eye with interest then their hand was out of the cage low down so I coukd drop them treats that they could pick without even looking😉

@GreyMirror

I really like that movie. The best part is when the squirrel gets an energy drink.

Depression has had a different effect on me. I wanted to be a writer when I was younger but my dad always told me I would never be good enough with words. I stopped for a very long time. Eventually my depression got so disastrous that I exploded and started writing songs. I was able to pour myself out onto the page in front of me. It didn't fix anything and I still struggle almost every day but it did help. At one point my songs were found and I was forced to burn them. This put me in a bigger hole than before but this time I was scared to write anything down. It was only two days ago that I started again.

Don't ever give up on your dream. You may not be able to make a living off of it but life is so much darker when you give up.
