What can I do to help?

I recently went through a breakup (or so it seems) with someone that I feel is fighting a deep depression. I've been researching depression for a few weeks and I am so confused on how or if I should try to help. He knows I'm here for support and I would do anything for him, but he just wants to be left alone. I have been racking my brain on how I caused this, but I can't think of what I did.

Why do people fighting depression ignore and push away the people that care the most about them the most?

Just keep letting them know you do love them so much and maybe give little gifts here and there like in their mailbox or text them something that could make them smile or laugh... also if they are in need of help defiantly tell a parent or someone they need to be seen and have a different / more depression medication if that's what is needed in this situation...

Even if they want to be left alone... They will come around because inside they are just pushing you away... Everyone wants to be loved. Don't give up on them

I myself do that because they don't understand enough. I think the best thing you can do is to leave him alone when he wants, and to come to him when he wants. That would be nice. And it's really nice that you care about your boyfriend, even if it's ex. That's really nice from you.

He can talk to a psychologist or to a psychiatrist. That's the only way and the only solution to somehow make him talk. Depression... serious sh*t.
