alcohol + antidepressants = ?
I don't know if it's the right place to post it, but - anyone has experience with mixing alcohol with antidepressants? I'm on meds for over a year now, haven't touched alcohol all that time, I did a little research, so generally I may feel worse after alcohol, but noone mentions longer effects, like I don't know, getting back to pre-meds state. I'm too young to not drink alcohol, I'm a little bit of an outcast now, I'm extremely introverted and I just can't hang out with people without a little bit of alcohol. So I'm freaking lonely, and it's definietly not helping with my depression. Ehhh.
I think it's always better to consult a professional about brain chemistry issues, and things they may ask is a) which antidepressant are you taking, b) what symptoms were they meant to treat, and c) are you wanting to have one glass of wine/beer a day or more than that?
When I was on citalopram, I was advised not to drink alcohol. I was advised that it was processed in the liver and alcohol is processed in the liver therefore the alcohol would affect me more readily than it otherwise would do.
I don't know if it's that way for other anti-depressants but what I would say is this. Alcohol is a depressant so if you're on anti-depressants then it might be counter-productive. Up to you though, of coruse.
Hey there @blueflovver, Thank for posting in the forums today, it's nice to see you here!
I would be extremely careful here and perhaps speak with your doctor or do some research on the net.
Nearly all antidepressant manufacturers specifically warn consumers to avoid consumption of alcohol while taking an antidepressant to avoid interaction side effects. Taking pills whilst drinking can speed up the effects of the alcohol much quicker, and can leave you feeling, dizzy, nauseous and escalate your depressive thoughts.
I can hear how fed up you are feeling right now, and it's hard knowing what the right thing to do is. Which is why you have absolutely done the right thing by asking for other opinions. This wont be forever hun, it's just for now, you can fight your depression with Some help and guidance and get you life exactly where you want it.
Take care, and please be strong, don't allow other to pressure you!
Alcohol is a depressant. That means any amount you drink can make you more likely to get the blues. Drinking a lot can harm your brain and lead to depression.

Personally, my doc said that ONE beer at weekend wouldnt probably effect me much even with MY medication. Still i would be weary of alcohol..
