Therapy Animals
Does anyone here have therapy animals? I have cavies as my therapy animals and pets. They are very personable, loving critters with unique personalities and they have helped me through some of my issues. When I have a bad day, cuddling with them makes me feel a bit better. Its not just their companionship, but also having living, breathing, loving creatures to care for that helps as well. I know they aren't a standard therapy animal (chickens made the list and last time I checked they aren't on it) but for me personally they help me with a lot. I get some criticism for considering them such, but that's when people don't understand that animals can do more than help with physical disabilities, but also mental disabilities and disorders. They help with the PTSD, depression, and a little bit of the anxiety. Some people also think it's just dogs, but for someone like me that can't have a dog in my present situation, I feel they help just as much.
zerstoere, i was going to say my dog really makes me feel better, but then i saw where you cant have one. i believe though, that if your animal helps you feel good, then i see nothing wrong with it. i just know that i could scold my dog for something one minute and the next, she has forgotten about it. she will come up and nudge my leg and she just sits there panting. any pet that makes you feel better personally.
I've been trying to get a therapy dog for my apartment (no dogs allowed). I submitted a request for accommodation with a recommendation from my last therapist (I'm no longer in counseling). They just ignored it. So I sent a follow up letter, asking them to contact me via email to let me know if any decisions in the matter had been made. They ignored that one too. I'm too anxious to leave my apartment and go down to the office to talk to them in person. It seems like a hopeless situation. Has anyone else experienced this?
Xlibbyx, get a friend to go down there with you. It might even be better if you know someone that looks like a lawyer, have them put on a suit and go down there with you. They can just stand there with you not saying anything, maybe with a notepad writing stuff down. That might scare them, but if you dont wanna try that, get a real lawyer to call them or write a letter for you. I dont think that would cost too much. Just trying to offer a suggestion. I will say a prayer for you that things work out for ya.
If it's any help my cats help me with my deppresion
I used to have an old tom cat. I really liked that cat. He was fluffy orange and white. There was an older lady that lived across the road from me, she said the cat scared her, that he looked mean. He used to pass through her yard in the early evening to see his girlfriends. I think that lady had her son take him somewhere. I was kind of mad for a while, I just hope he didnt hurt him. I got a lab now thats my baby, shes a great dog and companion.
I would consider my horse a therapy animal. She is loving and helps tons. She'll hug me and loves getting kisses on the muzzle. If I can't talk to anyone else I can talk to her. It's not a spoken conversation it's body language and it's different then a human. It's good. She knows when I need to be close and will stand by me for as long as I need when I don't feel well and just let me lean into her. Yeah may not be a conventional answer to a companion animal as alot of people don't have the land for a horse but she definitely does alot for me and is my best friend for sure.
