Weekly Self Care Challenge- put down that phone!
Are you ready for this weeks challenge? I got in bed last night and immediately started browsing through facebook. My husband is on a trip so nights get a bit boring watching tv by myself. I had planned to go to bed right then but after several kids pictures, a George Takei article posted, wedding pictures, a political rant and a few perfect vacations post of my friends I found myself 30 mins later still trying to settle down for sleep. This wasnt the best way to end my night. And many of us do that. Our cell phone is the last thing we put down each day and the first thing we pick up the next day. Weve all heard the reports that we should put down our phone, especially at night because of the lights and activity. Well some phone fixed the lights by offering a night option. But I want you to consider if social media is helping you calm yourself? It usually elicits emotions. Some of joy of seeing someone having fun, some of jealousy when we start comparing our lives to those posted on facebook and some make us just down right angry like political rants or trolls. When we are trying to relax we dont need these extreme emotions instead we need calming. My challenge to you is to put DOWN the phone! Try spending your last minutes at night in conversation with a partner or roommate. Reading a book. Or yoga or stretches. Lets see if putting down our phones will help us get to bed on time and allow us to drift off in a calm, peaceful manner to get the rest we need.
So the challenge this week: Set down your phone and dont do any social medial or emails 30 mins before bed. Are you up for the challenge?
