Depression as a 16yo

I’ve gone through somewhat of a stage of depression and I feel like I want to get it off to someone that may be able to help me with this

the name I go by is Ty, and I’m 16 as of writing this.

I’ve had to deal with what I think are the worst things anyone has to go through.

I’ve recently had to put my dog down due to a malignant cancerous tumour in her mouth at just 23 months old.

I’ve also dealt with a lot of bullying in my time in secondary school and so far anyone I’ve told that to just tells me to man up. And I don’t think that is right. I was at such a stage that I was having sleepless nights and relying on coffee just to stay awake. It just felt wrong and I even got to the point where the only colour I would wear was black and some started to notice and I would just push them away thinking their response would be to just man up.

A few months went by in this stage and I went down hill really fast. Then I saw at the time was the love of my life. And we got together and she helped me through a lot. But… as it says all good things must come to an end. She left me after 3 months of being together. I spent all my money time and effort on her. And to me it felt as if she just didn’t know how much effort I invested into our relationship.

she has now stopped talking to me in person and over text.

so if anyone has any tips or advice on how to deal with it I would greatly appreciate the time and effort to help me. 🙏

@honestOak367

Hello there honestOak367!

It's really sad to read all you went through lately, sorry for it. It surely is difficult to deal with so many negative events, I understand the lost of a ''furry friend'' is heartbreaking. As a dog owner myself, I understand it very well.

On top of it the bad behavior at school shouldn't have happened, bullying is a really negative and damaging thing, I would hope in your school there is someone to refer to, in case of this type of incidents? If so, did you report them the situation?

I understand that you feel like things went downill, giving also ''the love of your life'' stopped communicating with you, even if you invested a lot and has been focused on her.

I would tell you that in this moment of your life it's important to take good care of yourself, you need to be the main focus now: try to prioritize your self care with good sleep (help it with relaxation techniques that work for you) and healthy habits (don't skip meals, hydrate yourself) that will prevent your physical energy to go down.

Do you have any hobby or things you like to do that you could add to your daily routine to distract the negative thoughts a bit? And last but not least, don't isolate yourself: see if you can join a listener to chat with when you feel to, open up on how you feel, we are here for you too 💙

I'm sure that better moments will happen, I know it's difficult to believe it right now, but trying to keep hope alive is the best we can do at a time.

Sending you good vibes 💪
