Depression, feeling trapped
I have severe depression but since I am a teen, I can’t get help on my own. I can’t get antidepressants on my own so I need a parent. My only parent (my mother) won’t help me. She calls me dramatic and says I don’t have a mental illness even though we’ve gone to doctors in the past (for physicals and stuff) and I’ve mentioned my symptoms and they have all told me that it’s clear I’m depressed. I’ve also been forced to go to therapy for years on and off due to foster care/dcf reasons and they have also noticed that I was depressed. But now I dont have therapy anymore and my mother won’t help me or call someone to help me. So I came to this app. I’ve been searching for days online “free therapy hotline,” or “free therapy for teens,” and I finally found this app.
It's great that you've already taken steps to address your mental health- I'm really proud of you. Aside from having a serious, sit-down conversation with your mom, you can look into other resources- does your school have a counselor? A counselor can also help facilitate a conversation between you and your mom, or direct you to other community resources. Maybe your community has a mental health resource center. (Mine has a program where you can get six free therapy sessions, so it's worth looking into!) You can also ask to speak to your doctor one-on-one at your next appointment. Either way, a first step will be hard, but I know all of us in this community believe in you. Good luck:)
