Helping someone grieving
Okay I'll try and keep this short and simple.
I need advice on how to help a grieving friend.
A few years back, he lost his son to suicide. I know that he blames himself and thinks it's his fault despite his wife telling him it's not. I never met his son and didn't even meet my friend until after he'd lost his son. I know that he drinks, a lot, or hard liquor every night saying that he can't sleep without it. But his health isn't in the best state and between the liquor and pack of cigarettes a day, he's not doing his health any favours. I also know that he confides in me more than most other people, possibly more than even his wife, and I don't want to do anything to betray his trust.
Besides losing his son, this man has suffered a GREAT deal in his life and I don't know how best to help him.
It should also be noted that English is his third language and he's not the best at it. I also don't think he'd go to talk to any kind of professional.
