Hi, I'm new

July 10th, 2019

Hi, everyone. I got diagnosed with depression for the first time yesterday. My friend suggested I had anxiety, too. I never even considered it until he suggested it, but it does also fit. Now I'm feeling scared and hopeless whilst I wait to get an appointment with a psychologist.

I have had a depressive episode years ago and never sought help because I thought it would be okay. I then ignored all the other periods of low moods that came after because I thought it was just part of the PhD. For anyone doing a PhD, just because it's common for people to get stressed and depressed, it doesn't make it okay!

I now regret not doing anything sooner because it's now back and worse than the first one. Yay...

@bubbleGlobe Hello Globe, welcome to 7Cups. I am glad you are here with us, and I am so proud that you are reaching out for support. I can imagine the amount of guilt you feel for not getting professional help sooner. However, it is never too late to get better, and you show great self awareness. I wish you all the best; I hope your appointment goes well.

If you have any concerns or questions, let us know. We are here for you. Best wishes! :)

@lovelyWhisper66 thank you so much. I have been feeling okay since I joined 7 Cups because it is such a great community here and I feel so much less alone.

I spoke with a really helpful listener yesterday who convinced me, at least for now, that things will be okay once I get into treatment. I don't know how long my feelings of okayness will last, but I'm trying not to think about that now.
