Hello, so I joined yesterday prior to entering a crisis episode, this is for that but offered me a great resource. There's a crisi number you can text when you are in that stage. Uhm I had not self harmed in a year or so. Today im starting again, day one. IDK if this place is right for me but I don't have a therapist and not lack of trying I just haven't clicked yanno. So yeah. Hello everyone my name is Lisa and I have seasonal affective disorder.
@iveliiaa
Hi. Im in the same boat, or at least a very similar one. I came here for the same reason. There arent very many resources for people in the grey area.
Im sorry to hear that self harm reared its ugly head again for you. I stayed in bed all day to avoid that exact thing. Its also been raining here for 3 days straight and thats always a depression/anxiety trigger for me.
How are you feeling now?
I tried to send you a message but honestly couldnt figure it out. Maybe the website is easier? Idk.
@SpaceyKitty hi I'm feeling a bit better day two now. The thoughts of cutting went away but I'm still super in the dumps right now. I keep touching the cuts...
@iveliiaa
I'm glad you're feeling better and that the thoughts have retreated. I think touching is ok. I trace some of my scars sometimes.
Hi
Im a newbie here. Finally found my way to this forum because of a really crappy few days. I dont want to dump my issues but having people that understand would be nice, most people in my life dont.
Ive been in bed all day today. Didnt go to work, havent eaten or drank anything, only left to use the little girls room twice. I also missed work on Monday.
I seem to live in a gray area of life. I feel suicidal but do not have a plan, probably couldnt even come up with one if I tried. It feels like my brain has quit working except to send pain and grief signals.
Ive attacked the one person Im semi-close to all day, and then got super upset when they said they didnt want to come over tonight. When really that is all I wanted. One person to care enough to come check on me when Im having a rough time.
I saw my psychiatrist yesterday and will see my therapist tomorrow. But if anyone has a way to trick their mind into feeling temporarily better, or at least stop the negative mind, I would gladly listen.
Thanks for reading this guys. I hope we can all find some peace. Remember to be kind to yourself.
@SpaceyKitty I trick my mind by knowing the darkness is irrational and that it is my mind playing tricks on me... I also fill my time. I joined a community choir, bowling league and I go hiking. I make myself roll out of bed, throw on a sweatshirt and go. I do have Xanax prescribed though for the anxiety... talk to your doc...
Hi everyone.
I recently had an event happen that triggered a new and more severe episode than Ive ever had before. I realized that Ive been suffering from depression for the past 5 years, but didnt know what it was or how to ask for help until now. I struggle to eat more than 500 calories a day and I can barely get out of bed in the morning. I feel so empty sometimes and I just want it to stop. I feel like its preventing me from living my life by living in all this sadness.
Im currently waiting on a referral for a therapist to go through, but until then I was hoping 7 Cups could help.
Hello I'm new to the app and community. I have recently had a spiraling effect in my depression and I am towards the bottom of that spiral. I think about ending it more and more often. typically when in hot rock bottom I make an attempt on my life. I am trying to avoid that and hope that reaching out will help.
@impartialPenguin9512 depression rearing its angry head... I feel you... especially this time of year. I am hoping for some sun soon. I know it
@generousBunny584
I try new things to try to occupy my mind. but I lose interest and I'm right back where I started. i am trying more physical activities, cycling, running. so far it has helped. but I'm just afraid my depression will persist and I will lose interest and have thoughts about hurting myself again. there are things i can do but I end up in the same place and dont know how to maintain that mindset.
@impartialPenguin9512 I agree. I feel like I dont have the energy to do a lot of things once I start them. I try to make commitments and get family or friends involved. They sort of hold me accountable... I feel more wanted when I have someone there to back me up. I definitely have a lot of days where I dont want to do a thing but then I remind myself the people that are counting on me and I would be letting people down. I know that letting them down would make me feel worse, so I go and it ends up being enjoyable, and I feel better. Do you like to do any activities that are the same as family members or friends? Do you feel a lot of anxiety in group situations? There may be group situations, you can be a part of, where you dont feel pressure to talk to anyone...
Another thing that helps is to not hit that snooze button! I know it sounds easy, but making myself get up even though I could literally stay in bed all day, really helps my mood. It really sucks to get up, and I sometimes just go and stand near a window (sunshine is a big benefit), and stare out like a zombie while I drink my coffee (bird watch, or ppl watch if ur in a city)... but it makes the day so much better...it takes me so long to come to reality that I make sure to set the alarm for an hour before I have to leave. No shower just waking up. I have moved showers to evening... what is ur waking up routine?
@generousBunny584 I can see having a community of support helpful, but I have too much anxiety. i prefer small groups and even though i still feel I cant be myself. most people that I know just aren't into physical activity. which is something I think will be the best at keeping my mind distracted. so I have trouble finding people to join in the same activity and have group accountability and comrodery.
I can relate to what youre saying and it is helpful to know it's not just me out here by myself. I hit the snooze button a lot. I do have a dog and so she forces me to get up and take her out. so I cant sleep all day, even if I want to. I do sleep more often than i should when I dont have to go to work.
what I hope to try to do is set up my in home spin workout so that I can try to cycle at night and shower before bed. the hard part will be finding the motivation to follow through.
I seem to be spinning my hamster wheel and cant break the cycle....do you have a cycle of depression that starts itself all over again and again and again? what do you do to break the cycle?
@impartialPenguin9512 great that you have a dog. Me too, though mine is old and would stay in bed all day also... exercising is good, I try to do it as much as I can outside to get that mood boosting vitamin D from the sun. Hiking as fast as I can go is my favorite. I am lucky to live where there are a lot of trails within a 15 min drive. I take my dog with me and he keeps me on my toes. Even though hes slowing down, I think he knows how much I enjoy myself outside...
As for the cycles of ups and downs. When I get down I start some project. Either on my home or at work and it makes me feel like I have more drive and inspiration. Right now I am redoing a linen closet. Once I complete a project, I feel good about myself. Its also a good outlet for my compulsively. I just wish laundry felt like a project I should complete haha. Some ideas for projects: painting an outdated piece of furniture, installing removable wall paper on a feature wall, making some art (photography works too) and then installing it in your home, jewelry making... What do you think you would enjoy for a project? YouTube is great for learning just about anything. I have been able to do things I never thought I would be able and it makes me get out of those cycles...
If any of the above ideas sound fun Ill be glad to give tips!
@impartialPenguin9512 oh, talk to your doctor! Mine really helps me! I break down in front of her sometimes and I am on medication for depression and anxiety but I feel like she is a part of my support system. Also, do any of your friends have depression or anxiety? Talk with them too tell them how you feel and you may find you have similarities and then maybe you can have another support person. I hope I can help any way also!!
@generousBunny584 most of the things I do revolve around academics. books, publications, research. so the projects I do have pending feel more like work which I want to avoid most of the time. I think I might enjoy making collages. picture collages or scrap booking. I have a printer that I can print photos with. maybe in should use it!
I have not made one since grade school. in grade school arts and crafts were never my speciality.
I tried seeing a therapist, but I find that they tend to want to put me on medication right away. and they may be right. I would just rather have an alternative to medication. in the short term it may help, I'm just skeptical right now.
my dog is pretty cool. she wants to hang out and go places all the time and is up for anything. just wish I had her energy. she snuggles with me sometimes as well, but she has bad gas and incant rake it sometimes...haha!
Hello here
I am new to this thread and I have been suffering with depression for over a year now. I can't seem to find closure since the loss of my mum and asides that, life has been basically meaningless so I'm stuck in this slough of despond. Sadly I'm in a society where issues such as this are waved away so I've made little or no progress in overcoming this depression. I am so glad to be in this community and I hope to get the necessary support to overcome this phase
Hi All,
new to all this and especially reaching out for info/help.
Have a feeling that im depressed and hve anxiety. Neither have been a real issue till recent years.
Ive found myself cutting people out of my life for no good reason. Trouble getting out of bed or apt. And an overall overwhelming feeling. If this sounds familar to anyone please let me know. Im a bit lost and would like to know where to go next.
Thanks.
Hello everyone. I just joined today. Finding this app/website was cool! I had no idea anything like this existed and its nice to have people here that understand you and are going through the same thing you are. Ive currently been struggling with thoughts of suicide and self harm for the past 5-6 years. I havent been diagnosed with anything (dont have the money or support to) and dont like the idea of a self diagnosis but if I had to match my feelings with anything, Itd be depression/anxiety/Quiet BPD/ED. I am pretty young, I dont like the idea of suicide at such a young age but its getting harder everyday that I am existing.
