Extreme Hunger

The holidays rolled around and I promised myself I’d enjoy them and try to eat good. Now I find myself totally out of control. It feels like I can’t stop eating.

I know extreme hunger is a part of it, but it feels so wrong and idk what to do. I’m eating sugary junk till I feel sick and then I eat more. My stomach hurts and it’s hard to breathe, but anytime I’m around food I keep eating it. I’m so scared and I don’t know what to do.

I want to use laxatives, but I’m afraid of what that will do to my body.

Any advice or ways to feel less full/bloated. I just feel so disgusted, I’ve never had this happen before and I’m scared.

Hi there. Ooh, I totally get it. I am an over-eater myself / recovering bulimic. Yesterday I had 10 candy cane cookies, 2 cups of rice pudding, an entire tub of mashed potatoes and cheese with habanero hot sauce, a 2-liter of soda, a pint of Cheesecake Factory Ice cream, and I tried to balance things out with V8 juice, mineral water, and carrot juice. I ate more but I can’t even remember it all because I mindlessly shovel it in. I don’t have an answer for your problem aside from the obvious - talk to your doctor openly and honestly, go to overeater’s anonymous meetings, try drinking lots of water so your stomach feels full, etc. I mainly just wanted to tell you, from one *S*P*A*R*K*L*E* to another, you aren’t alone.

Honestly thank you, it brings a sort of sick comfort to know I’m not alone. I drank so much water but still ended up over eating. I don’t have access to a medical professional yet unfortunately, but I’ve made plans to get in touch with one soon. I’ve been doing most of my recovery by myself pretty much, so it’s been hard taking good actions. Thanks for your response!

@SparkleKitten5000 Hey there SparkleKitten - first off, congratulations on making it through the holidays thus far. I understand how challenging they can be.

Second, I’ve gone through extreme hunger, and I relate to what you’re saying. It sounds like you’re feeling a bit “out of control” with food, both mentally and physically (with the physical symptoms).

You are right that extreme hunger is a part of the recovery process. However, I can imagine that mentally and physically, it probably doesn’t feel good now. If you have a therapist/psychiatrist/mental health professional, you could consider talking about this to them. In my experience, I know doctors can prescribe medication to help with the stomach discomfort that tends to accompany recovery, and therapists can help you with the mental aspect of this.

Lastly, know that you’re not alone. Me and other listeners are here to support and listen to you if you want. You’re brave and I hope you feel better soon!

Out of control is very accurate. I don’t have one right now, but I plan on getting medical help soon with a professional. I’ve been doing it alone for the most part, so this mental aspect has been really hard. It’s difficult to manage overwhelming feelings without someone 😅. Thank you for your response, it was very helpful : )
