Hi, I'm Louise I'm 37yrs.... im not diagnosed with an ED however I would class myself as having Atypical anorexia... it all started 5 months ago after a old relationship resurfaced... anyways, along with taking diet pills and keeping it a strict calorie controlled diet I also abuse laxatives, to the point it makes me so poorly I find it hard to get through the day as I'm light headed, lethargic , feel sick and wobbly.. I admitted myself into the mental health ward and unknowing that my pych nurse was going to section me the following day anyway... whist in hospital I could not get at my laxatives, diet pills or count calories.. I was left eating the food on the ward as I was encouraged by staff... the 2weeks whilst I was there I put on 2 stone... when I left hospital I realized how much weight I gained I was devastated... I've now gone back to square one... I dont know what to do... I am going g to hide the fact that I have gone back to square one from my mental health team and pretend I'm eating and off the laxatives and diet pills... I'm still not ready to give them up. I still want to lose weight and become slim and beautiful... I have cut down slightly on the laxatives so that's a good thing... what would you do if you where me ??

Hi Louise,

I think I would confide in my mental health team. These are the people who have my back and my best interests at heart.

Any good therapist who works with EDs (or ED behaviours) knows that taking away your laxatives if you aren't ready isn't good for your recovery. What is good for recovery is having that discussion of is the laxatives worth feeling poorly? Tossing up those battles of the ideals of being skinny vs the reality of how crap you feel when you're taking these.

You're not back to square one- you have more knowledge under your belt which you didn't have back then. heart
