Is this a developing ED?
According to many BMI tests online I am at a healthy weight. Now I know BMI tests arent the greatest, but I did several different ones to get a general idea. So anyway they all say Im a healthy weight, but I really dont believe it. I am definitely not skinny, and my arms and legs and torso- I - feel fat. Lately I sometimes try to eat less than normal, but also add a little more nutrition to my diet. It doesnt really work since theres only so much I can put in my lunchbox for school. My parents will offer dinner (I have practice til late so I dont often eat with my family on weekdays) and Ill say Im not hungry, even if the food looks delicious. This has just started and it doesnt happen every day, but lately Ive noticed it happening again. I know that around Christmas of 2018 (about two months ago) I weighed about 126 (Im 13). Now Im at 112. That may be from doing two sports teams at once, but I remember first I was 116.5, and I didnt like it so I restricted food a little bit and got to 116, then 115. That still wasnt good enough, so I went to 113 over a period of time (I stopped measuring for a while). Last night and today I checked and Im at 112. Now as a number that sounds pretty good to be, except I dont feel or look any thinner. How can I have gone from 126 to 112 and not look any different? I have not been diagnosed with any eating disorders, and to my knowledge my parents have no suspicions of me having an eating disorder. I dont know myself either. Can someone tell me if I have or am developing an eating disorder? If not then feel free to yell at me like I yell at myself because I feel guilty for pretending to have- to even consider, really- having a disorder. Thanks for staying til the end! Please help me.
@ThePizza Hi Pizza, only a therapist can tell you, if you got an eating disorder, but to me it sounds like you are. Never ever think you are faking it, you can't fake it without knowing you are faking it. Even if you eat normally some days. I do that too, some days. If you wanna talk, please PM me, or write me here :)
Thanks for the insight. Now that I know this, what do I do now? @EvilRegalsReadToo
@ThePizza You find yourself a therapist :)
@ThePizza I think you might be beginning to show signs of body dysmorphia. A change of 14 pounds is pretty significant, and you probably do look different than before. It's definitely not a "fat" weight. Starting to eat more healthily is great for you, but the amount of stress you have about looking the same after weight loss sounds a bit concerning. Definitely check in with a counselor if you have time. You're not pretending to have an eating disorder just to look "cool," so don't feel guilty or doubt your own feelings. I wish you luck and I hope self-love comes a bit easier to you in the future.
Hi, I'm generally new here. I'm no psychologist but in my own personal experience, that's exactly how my ED started. I was about your age and had lost about that much weight due to the added exercise and already unhealthy eating patterns. I confided in one of my close friends but she didn't think much of it. Now I'm seventeen and afraid to even think of food. If you are concerned about it regardless of how insignificant it may seem or how much it feels like you're faking. Try to catch it now before it spirals out of hand. If you ever want to talk. I'm here for you.
I was floating around and saw a couple of posts on here that I thought may be of some use to you.
This one has a lot of information about the Anorexia and links to BED within it:
This one has some coping mechanisms that sound like they could be useful. though I haven't tried them myself:
