43 years of hell

Hello all,

I turned 65 last month and this marked 43 years of struggling, fussing, fighting, etc with my body.  I started binge eating as a young college student in the early 80s and it wasn't until I was prescribed Monjauro for my diabetes that things turned around for me.   I do not credit the drug with my total turn around, it is only part.  The other two things that are meaningful for me, are my long daily cardio sessions ( cycling on a stationary bike at home ), long walks and intermittent fasting.   I have spent nearly my entire life, certainly all my adult life dieting, starving, over exercising, in therapy, and I am glad somehow I have gotten to the other side, though my youth is totally gone now.     The struggle and pain of BED is real and can end up lasting decades.     There is hope.   💜

This message was exactly what I needed to hear! You are so strong for saying this to so many strangers and I feel identified with you. I’m 20 and have had been dieting since I was 12, due to ballet. I’m a ballerina and had to always watch out for my weight, which caused me to have restriction and bingeing cycles. This year I asked myself the question: Am I really gonna spend the rest of my life thinking about how my body looks and obsessing over food?

The answer is no. Now I decided to give myself the full freedom of eating whatever I want. This has caused me to binge eat a lot. However knowing from you that there is a way out comforts me and motivates me to continue this journey. Thank you for sharing this, I’m proud of you, it takes a lot of courage to recover 🫶🫶

@isabailaaa

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your lovely, kind and supportive words.   My whole life has been taken up with every unhealthy method of controlling my size, my appearance and my weight.  It seemed hopeless as let's face is, 43 years is a very very long time to deal with someone.

I wanted to share my story in the hopes that it might prove helpful to someone else out there struggling.    I don't like to push veganism or intermittent fasting on anyone, so I won't, but suffice it to say that those things helped me tremendously.   Small meals only pump insulin out all day long keeping me in that binge cycle.   Also I tend to be a black or white, all or nothing kind of gal, hence my extreme cardio sessions  ( 2-3 + hours a day on a stationary bike ) - that is probably not the healthiest option I realize, but there isn't much else I excel at my age and with osteoporosis and arthritis.  I have maximized what I am good at and just accept my limitations everywhere else.

Happy to be of help - ask me anything, I am more than willing to share, help and support.    💜
