I "black out" during a binge

Like I'll eat a bunch of food then snap out of it and not really remember eating any of it until I look through the mess. It's like my brain just shuts down and something takes over.
Does this happen to anyone else?

I'm wondering if it is truer to say that the needed parts of your brain have blacked out before you start to binge, only the rest of your brain doesn't realise?
