Is this considered binge eating disorder?

I’m wondering whether this is considered having one.

I restrict my food intake during the week and then end up eating A LOT on one day. So my general pattern is: low calories for 6 days, then high calories for 1 day.

the day after my “binge” I just continue on the cycle again - low calorie intake for the next 6 or so days.

I don’t plan a binge day though, it just happens. I end up losing control and eating whatever I see.

is this a binge eating disorder? I’m not sure if it’s classed as one as I only “binge” around once a week and not everyday.

If you were to go off of the DSM-V diagnosis, BED is having an occurence of binging at least once a week, for at least 3 months. I would take a lot of medical professionals take this as a framework but it isn't necessarily as black and white.

I would suggest that if it is having a significant disruption on your mental and physical health and you don't see it lessening for the time being, go see a mental health professional or a doctor. The reasons for your binges/restrictions could be multiple things and they would be able to help you the most.

As someone with BED, I can definitely tell you that I relate.
