Last binge??

I hate how food controls my life.I’ve struggled with binge eating/overeating for about 15 years and I don’t know how to help myself. Last night was my last binge- lost count of how many times I’ve said that! My friends/family don’t know about my eating disorder, actually I spoke to my mum about it years ago but she doesn’t know how to deal with emotional stuff so I gave up lol

I woke up after a binge last night feeling bloated, depressed, disgusted, hungry. Food has taken over for my life for too long, anyone have any suggestions please? Thank you 😃

@Mila1101 I have found that asking me "am I hungry for a slice of ryebread with boring "topping" or am I hungry for something delicious". If a piece of ryebread can satisfy my hunger, then I will eat it. If only something "delicious" can satisfy it, then I know I am not hungry, but wants to handle bad feelings with food, and then I won't eat.

If I'm not sure whether it's one or the other, then I will eat that piece of ryebread, and see if it satisfies me. I quickly learned if I was actually hungry or was emotionally eating that way :)

@TheMadHatterWasHere Thank you for your reply 🙂 I am definitely an emotional eater.I’ve always struggled to express my emotions and don’t really have anyone I could talk to when I’ve had a bad day. I just eat my emotions and then feel 100 times worse later.

@Mila1101 Next time you feel emotional and feel like you can't talk to anyone, tag me in this thread or another, and I will talk to you about it :)

Every slip meant and means something for me. I am now very attached to a plan that involves everyday exercises to deal with the thoughts and the uncomfortable situations - before the slip (anger, anxiety, boredom and my beggining of setting boundaries). Even if I am driven to a slip, I also have a plan to deal with it. Do not punish yourself, it only make things worse. Try to understand your feelings and co-op with them. It's ok to fall, you can stand on your feet again. Also, talk to supportive people, share your difficult thoughts and ask the help you need! If I can do it, you also can! (Sorry for my English)

@NatalieIoan Thank you for your reply 😃 I’m feeling very positive at the minute I think writing things down on here has helped me a lot but I hate how food has this control over me. Next time I’m feeling down I will write a post on here.

Keep on trying and you'll notice that you are taking control of your life. Focus on the things you change, even in difficult times and congratulate yourself as you deserve! A notebook also helps to see and recognize all your effort 😉 You can share also some of your good practices with us and help each other, when you feel ready.

@NatalieIoan Thank you 🙂 I have been writing in a journal lately- when I remember lol and that has helped a lot as I find it difficult to talk about how I feel.

@Mila1101 For me, there's no such thing as a "last binge". This is a lifelong issue that I have to manage. Instead, I keep those foods out of my house. I binge on things like broccoli with mustard for dipping, or apples. Especially with the broccoli, you just end up chewing so damn much that your jaw gets tired and the binge urge just kinda melts away. That's how it is for me. This has helped me keep my weight in a healthy area. I used to be morbidly obese.

I have tried everything but I found not having “bad food” in the house will be fine for a week or so but then I crave it so badly I’ll go and buy it all and binge anyway. It’s a constant struggle trying not to think of any food as “bad” then if I do have something “bad” I won’t feel like it’s ruined so I might as well have a full on binge.

Hi sorry I’ve only just seen your message 🙂 I’ve tried in the past to talk to my mum about my binge eating but she doesn’t understand and didn’t say anything, she doesn’t know how to react when I’m upset or emotional. I find it easier to open up to people I don’t know like on here. This forum has helped me a lot.
