Binge eating:(
Hi, I can't stop binge eating and hiding food in my room. I started this after my dad almost passed away and I don't know who to tell or stop. I feel so upset when I do this.
As almost any addiction, binge eating is a response to stress or trauma. Each ome of us try to cope how we can...I am an alcohol and normal tobacco addict and a binge drinker. All our addictions are effects, not causes because we try to cope but do not know how. When I don't have alcohol or cigarretttes I use to do binge eating because eating is conforting for me. Eating makes my mind feel good. Fortunately I have an extremelly active metabolism and I don't gain weight or have the need to vomit after but I feel and undrrstand what you are going through. My advice is to come out with ypur binge eating and seek help in this early stage, friends, gamilly, therapists, research or here every tools on 7cups. Find other ways to cope with what you are going through...Life is hard and is never going tostop hitting us in one way or another and keeping binge eating every time you find and obstacle is doing you harm...try to find confort in people and sharing your griefs and provlems and come out and talk about it...
@dancinggirl2 Hey, thank you for telling us. Indeed, it seems like it is a coping mechanism for your grief. I'm actually quite proud of you acknowledging binging and hiding food in your room. Not only have you recognized the issue, you have also started to search for a way to deal with it. I'm still searching for solutions myself, so I hope someone else can help us. I suppose there's some tools on this forum as well. I hope you get to work on the binging, if that is what you want to do <3
Thank you so much for your replys.
@dancinggirl2 you are soo welcome and you are not alone🤗🤗🤗
@dancinggirl2 Thank you for opening the discussion, so I could see i am not alone as you and others are struggling, too. Feel free to keep us updated, if you want <3.
Hello:
I'm only assuming from your thread that you're relatively young. I struggled with binging and hiding food when I was younger (and still binge now). You could very possibly save yourself many years of food addiction and just an overall unhealthy realtionship with food if you address this now and get some professional help. The longer this goes on the harder it will be to change. Not impossible, just harder. Another aspect is that this could lead to other addictions and behaviors, many which could be dangerous.
I speak from my own experience. If I could go back and talk to my younger self, that's one of the things I would say.
Good luck

i do it too.. im always eating something.. and it had bad consequences to my health.. now i see my child doing the same and it must work as a wake up call for me.. we should find something more positive as a replacement but what? Thats the question.. i once started a diet and in order to keep it i used to watch a lot of video clips in which the girls were thin and listen to music while dancing by myself... but in the end i started feeling ugly.. cause those girls were young and im old... and they have flawless skins and i have wrinkles.. this sort of comparison... so I stopped watching the videos.. but i still listen to music.. sometimes it helps.. it seems to me that i turned to binge eating because eating is more acceptable than other addictions.. its like coffee addiction being more acceptable than other repetitive habits , and so i guess some people drink more coffee than they should as a way to diminish their stress.. but i cant drink too much coffee .. so i decided to try caffeine free tea.. ive been drinking a lot of tea.. idk if its a good idea but im trying to find a way.. i did therapy for many years.. i dont feel motivated to go back now because of the costs.. just venting.. hugs.. youre not alone in this.. keep fighting..
@Lavendersubmarine nothing is ever simple in life...

What a good awareness you have. And a desire to engage in healthier behavior. Kudos for reaching out! There is no judgement. You're just trying to deal as best as you know how. One thing I try to remember is that if I have one problem, and I compulsively eat...now I have two problems. Sometimes that helps me get in front of it.
