Cycles of starving and binge eating?

Hi I've only recently opened up about my troubles with eating but I was wondering if anyone else feels the same way I do. I have cycles of starving myself when I don't want to eat and I usually only eat during the evening when I'm home by myself, and then binge eating lots of bad foods like crisps and sweets. I'm really struggling with stress and I think that's making my eating habits even worse. I'm in the binge eating phase right now and I feel so guilty. I wondered if anyone else went through this?

I've gone through it as well and it's a hell of a hard cycle to break. The feelings of guilt and loss of control are devestating. :(

What really helped me is to just have smaller meals/snacks throughout the day and it would make me feel full enough that i didn't want to binge later on, but not full enough to feel live I've overeaten and have to restrict even more.

I wish you the best of luck. <3

I go through this a lot as well. I'm starting to get better. It's so easy to eat when alone because it's such an intimate process- it's putting something from the outside into your body. There is so much shame around eating. I've learned that when I am about to binge, I take 10 minutes to write down my feelings. I tell myself "if you still want to eat this in 10 minutes, then do it." That way I am not hard on myself, but I've learned that most times when I want to binge, it's because I am anxious/depressed/nervous/etc. It has really helped me. I listen to the "Food Psych" podcast and that has been a great resource. You really aren't alone here, and remember it is going to take time to change. Good luck- Lots of love and hugs

@indigosummer99 I do this more often than I would care to admit. My therapist refers to it as an "all or nothing" mentality. It's extremely tricky to get through and I definitely understand how lost you're feeling right now. Keep fighting, friend. You aren't alone in this.

I completely can relate, i have been told in the past because of restriction it can triggering a binge as your body is craving anything it can get its hands on. sorry for my ridiculous attempt at explaing the restrict and binge cycle, i'm sure google can provide you with a better explanation. I feel your pain though, I know how frustrating it can be, just be gentle with yourself.

Take care

For me this cycle especially starts the day after I have a "larger" meal out or I eat something that I didn't plan because I was at a friends house or something. I won't eat all day until I get home, but then I'll have a "larger" meal all over again because of how hungry I am. I found it really helps to get back on a regular breakfast, lunch, dinner schedule just by forcing myself to eat breakfast the next day. Even though I am not hungry at all. The days that I eat a good breakfast and continue with a normal lunch and dinner are the days I have no interest in binging or eat after dinner or late at night. Maybe thats why they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day? :)
